Thought about selling my At Pro

Agree completely with Jim on this. The AT Pro was my primary detector for 8 years. It's been my backup now for almost 5 years. Very good separation and I absolutely love the audio. There are several smaller things that could be improved but the bottom line is If it had another inch or two of...

    Monte

Monte was a true asset and ambassador for the hobby, RIP Monte and thank you. Pretty sure I know the "basher" being referenced here. A legend in his own mind, he couldn't figure out a Tesoro so of course that meant no one else possibly could either. Monte knew better. I remember a few years...

    Banning of metal detecting

No doubt some of the issues listed in this thread have caused detecting bans. The rise of social media and amateur video doesn't help either. Moronic show offs with an insatiable need for attention making their little videos of themselves digging craters in the park with their big old shovels to...

    Minuteman falsing issues

I have no idea why that would correct the issue, but since it's not falsing now that's great. Of the three FT coils for the Greek platform detectors I've used, I like that 8" round the best. Hope you find a lot of goodies with it! The Eurotek was ahead of it's time when it came out in 2013, the...

    Minuteman falsing issues

Remember too that the Minuteman is a fixed ground balance unit. If the preset ground balance is set too negatively for your soil it will cause excess falsing. If you bought it new, there is a five year warranty so you might want to call the First Texas repair dept. If airtest performance is way...

    Whites TRX

If I remember correctly, Carl Moreland was the lead engineer behind the TRX back when he was still with Whites. Besides his engineering prowess, he deserves kudos for his consistent debunking of LRLs and the slimeballs who market them.

    Tesoro no longer in business

Most likely the ground balance pot was set way too negative. Silver Sabre is a grab and go fixed ground balance detector and if the gb is set too negatively on a fixed gb unit it will cause excess falsing. Had the same issue when I got a Tesoro Deleon years ago.

    Permission

Obviously, private property. To me, there are 2 rules for detecting private property without permission. 1. Don't do it 2. If you disregard or contemplate disregarding rule #1, don't discuss it on the forums.

    Fisher CZ's still the King

You had a cold cz-3d, Tony, which isn't unusual. In the Dankowski units he's certified for depth, I've seen as much as a 4 inch difference!

Mike Hillis Fisher f5 corrections post

I used the f5 more than any other detector from late 2008 to mid 2011. It found me a lot of silver, performed well and was enjoyable to use, The f5 was the first design of a platform that birthed many more detectors. A wonderful feature was how swinging the coil would eliminate most emi noise...

    Equinox 900 owners

My experience with the 10X5 Coiltek coil is definitely not the same as Tim's. I think it's a very good coil. It's basically in the middle of the Minelab 6" and 11" coils. As you would expect, the smaller 6" trumps the 10X5 when it comes to separation and minimizing emi. Also as expected, the...

What Fisher Model F75 is the Best for Overall Performance?

It's a tradeoff. Lose some depth with the dst or deal with a detector that is an emi magnet without it.

    Which is the better coil

Actually, some varieties of earthworms burrow quite deeply. As much as 6 ft deep. When the ground gets dry, they will dig deeper to get to moisture in the soil. Also, some earthworms burrow down several feet to the subsoil below the freeze line in the winter to hibernate. I still maintain that...

    Which is the better coil

Coins from the 1700s are typically found at less than 10" - certainly true because of the depth limitations of metal detectors. When you talk about all coins in the ground from the 1700s, found and unfound, how do you know they are typically less than 10" down? I don't know either, but coins...

    I Have A Question

There's probably a sign at the trailhead with rules and regulations. Assuming it's public property, if there is nothing posted that metal detecting is prohibited then go for it. Calling in an attempt to get permission from some random bureaucrat is likely to get you a no where otherwise nobody...

    Which is the better coil

I haven't used the AT Pro much for the last 4 years as it's been my backup detector. But I've had it since 2011 so I've had a good bit of experience with the different Garrett coils, although not that 7" it must be a more recent offering. Between the stock 11", the 5X8 and the little sniper...

Excellent information, Odanscoils. Thank you for sharing!

    Chatter

Tony, welcome to the not-so-wonderful world of electromagnetic interference. The Equinox is a high gain detector that, unfortunately, is quite prone to EMI. The advice you got above is good, obviously make sure your all your connections are tight and secure. Always do a noise cancel, which is...

    Minelab Manticore

My experience has not been the same as coin shooter's. Then again, I'm not a happy camper if I have to run the sensitivity as low as 18. And there have been plenty of times with the stock coil, especially near overhead power lines, when the EMI noise is intolerable even as low as 18 sens. It's...
