    Deus finds two Indians

While out shopping for a new printer yesterday, I stopped at the site of an old hotel that's long gone. Since I just happened to have my XP Deus with me, I figured I'd spend 10-15 minutes of unplanned detecting. Within 10 minutes the XP found a 1902 Indian and another Indian too corroded to...

Joined the XP club and also found silver

I broke down and ordered myself an XP Deus with WS4 Backphones and the 9" coil. It arrived today via UPS delivered to work. I brought it up to my office and charged the unit up and waited for quitting time to roll around... Right from work, I drove to a park that I've been hunting regularly...

    Weird thing. What is it?

Found this today. I have NO idea what this could be. Not even any guesses. It's in great shape though! Any ideas? Thanks! John

E-Trac finds silver twice this weekend!

After a completely dry summer with no decent finds, I scored silver twice this weekend: [attachment 318967 silver.jpg] The quarter was found next to an old stone swimming pool from the 50's and the ring was near the roadside near an old house in my area... John

    Finally got an E-Trac!

I finally broke down and bought an E-Trac. I got it this afternoon and took it out to an old homestead... In short, the E-Trac is a veritable coin magnet! This machine speaks to me and I feel oneness with it... It has found coins where my other detectors have not. Way to go Minelab...

Got a new Racer! I like!

It's been a dry summer for me as far as finds and I was getting frustrated. Since everything around here has been pounded to death, I figured a new detector might help. After hemming and hawing and weeks of research I got my new Makro racer last week. So far I'm very impressed with this unit...

Shooter 4x6 makes its first real find

I took the 4x6 coil out for its first real run this morning. I ran in TX Boost with sensitivity at 12 and disc at 85 using the coin program. Found a 1966 quarter, a 60's penny and a 1903 Indian Head in EF condition apart from some pitting right over the Indian's face: Liberty on the head band...

    Spectra V3 clad vs silver

A few weeks ago teckpro asked me if the V3 could differentiate between silver and clad using the analyze display. My answer was "sort of". There is a subtle difference. However, with tone ID turned on, the difference is easy to hear. I recorded some audio samples that demonstrate this and...

Test garden run: Shooter 4x6 vs Eclipse 5.3

I few weeks ago I posted a question as to what small coil to get. I ended up with the 5.3. I just purchased the 4x6 as well. Both coils are "v-nulled". When in doubt - get 'em both... Here are my impressions of both compared to each other after a run in the test garden: 5.3 Pros: 1) A...

A nice find followed by a dry spell

I'm getting frustrated.... First my Super 12 called it quits, now a dry spell. Last week I found a 1887 Indian Head (a rare find on Long Island in the sand we call soil) in solid VG to F condition and a 1919 wheatie. My first IH ever and first 19th century coin. That really increased...

    Super 12 or Eclipse 950?

I already have a Super 12 that I bought used. Last night I hooked it up and it caused an overload at all sensitivities. Knowing there is no warranty, I proceeded to dissect the coil. To make a long story short, the coil is not repairable easily. That said, I'm in the market for another coil...

Turning an alkaline pack into a 2500 mAH NiMH pack

Intro: The following are instructions to modify a White's alkaline battery pack into a 2500 mAH Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery pack that can be charged in the V3's charger. Go slow, be careful, and bear in mind I hold no responsibility if you make a mistake... I haven't yet...

    Got my V-optimized 5.3 today

All, I got my V3 optimized Eclipse 5.3 today. That little sucker is incredible! In my test garden it goes as deep as the 10DD, pinpoints spot on, and works much better in the trash! We have very low ground mineralization around here so concentrics seem to shine. John

    V-Nulled 5.3 - Anyone have stock?

I've made inquiries at a few dealers, online as well as my local dealer, for a V-nulled Eclipse 5.3. I tried a non-V 5.3 at my dealer but it couldn't be run above a sensitivity of about 3 and overloaded on TX Boost. I suspect my local dealer fulfills orders for White's web site so ordering...

    The V3 Does it again!

In a very heavily trashy area that I visited for the fits time - a lot of square nails and iron, the V3 found these tonight: 1952 quarter, 1962-D dime, 1918 wheatie. I need to get a smaller coil and go back. There's more where this came from, I just need to be able to "see" it among the...

    Spectra V3 finds first silver

teckpro and I met up today and spent about 2 1/2 hours detecting his "secret" park location (Thanks Andy!) The Spectra V3 finds included a good bit of clad, a button, a transit token, two wheaties (1957 and 1937) and a 1940 merc in nice condition. teckpro's XLT did quite well too...

Coinshooting / high trash deep coil

Here on Long Island, the sandy soil seems to allow coins to sink relatively quickly with time. I regularly find clad less than 25 years old that are at a depth of 4-5". I've found aluminum cans at 14" in undisturbed areas (how did they get that deep?). Also, most sites around here are high...

Best Digging Tool Yet - UltraDigger

This has wildly successful for me and costs relatively little compared to top quality metal detecting digging tools - and performs better to boot. A little bit of DIY is necessary, though. I call it the "UltraDigger" The "UltraDigger" starts life as an Ames True Temper Green Thumb 7-in-1 tool...

    RX Sensitivity and Probe

My v1.0 Vision was replaced due to some bad issues with the wireless headphones - not the usual audio glitching others have reported. I got my replacement unit today: a Spectra V3 with v1.1 of the code. On the Vision with v1.0, the probe feature seemed to give me reasonable estimates of RX...
