Bill Vernon Carter

I know that many of you here on the forum were acquainted with Bill Carter who was a long-time devoted student, collector, and master detectorist when it came to civil war bullets. Bill passed away quietly this morning, September 19, 2006 at about 4:00 a.m. I really don't know what to say...

    It's me again XXXXX

You stated on another forum.... >>>"so basically, if you want to find all gold anything, you have to dig pulltabs, there is no way around it. Contrary to what some of these unscrupulous types are saying on another forum who claim they can "notch" out p.tabs and still find gold rings everyday...

    Dealer Hype ???

I received an interesting private message in my inbox this morning that I wanted to share here on the forum, along with my response; ------------------------------------------------------- XXXXX Wrote: > I just have to say that it is a shame when people > like yourself mislead or atleast...

    No Skunks

At least not yet when it comes to rings with the Aces. Got out for a little while late today just before dark, and got another handful of clads and this little ring at the local high school using some of Clive's wisdom from his "DFX Gold Methods" book.
[attachment 16691...

I think I'm about to get the hang of this machine.......

Back out to the local high school today, considering Saturday was a total wash due to rain. By about 11:00 a.m., sun was shining and temps warming up enough to make an afternoon of it. All of the rain yesterday made the ground and target reaction noticeably different than what I was...

    Newbie Tip: Coin Popping :101

    Not a bad afternoon........

....at least where clad and coin count was concerned. Managed to get out about 3:00 this afternoon and hunted until around 6:00. Spent most of the time at the older school in town just picking coins here and there. Total coin count was 112, including 3 silver rosies, another kids ring, some...

    Quick Comparison - Ace 150 vs 250

Received the Ace 250 this morning, and thought I would do a quick comparison between the two just to see if there was really any difference in basic performance capabilities. Well, they are pretty darn close. The 250 does have a noticeably higher gain range that gives it a slight edge, but...

A little better coin count this afternoon, plus.......

Managed another 58 coins this afternoon, plus the chance to try out the older (circa 1940s) high school here in town, hopeful I might pick up a few older coins and "big kid" jewelry. The 150/4.5 Sniper didn't let me down, though there were more junk targets to contend with...

    Another hour and a half.......

.....phartin' around the local schoolyard with the Ace 150 and 4.5 Sniper this afternoon. I'm learning real quick that this little machine doesn't lie to you. If there is even the slightest hesitation on it's part when sweeping over a signal, you can bet with about 99 percent assurance that...

    Stop the Wobble

Since some manufacturers chose not to use the pole locking collars on their machine designs, I went in search of a way to tighten up and reduce the search-rod wobble from their stock configuration. This is what I came up with for my Nautilus IIb, and it works just as well on the Ace...

Gold Rings and the Ace 250

After getting a little use in with the 150, I'm tempted to get a 250 now and combine it with the excellent information contained in Clive Clinick's book "Gold Methods" and give it some serious time as a primary jewelry hunter. Having seen first hand the capabilities of the 150 to detect some...

    Confessions of a converted skeptic......

It seems the more I bounce around the different forums, the more I see mention of the Garrett Ace machines, with kudos being bestowed on them from newbies all the way up to the old-school die hards. Not having been much of a fan of Garrett in recent years, I continued to be somewhat skeptical...

Mike, here is something to try......

If you haven't already tried this, find a "reasonably sure" rusty bottlecap signal, then angle your coil at about 45 degrees from perpendicular, and slowly re-sweep the target with the right or left edge of the coil closest to the ground moving about 1 foot either side of the target. Tried this...

Anyone interested in trying out the T-2 at a good price.......

Drop me an eMail or PM. I still want to scratch that DFX itch before I decide which I prefer between it and the T-2. Ralph

    T-2 Photos

The first photo is of the earlier prototype configuration that had the reinforced plastic arm-cup and battery/speaker housing, with a variation of the final production coil design.
The second photo is of the final production configuration...

Jose' can you seeeeee...... by the dawn's early light.

A couple of early morning thoughts and ramblings on the T-2...... Like they say on the **** commercials, what you see on the screen is what is IN the ground. With the T-2, it's also what the ground IS. One glance at the T-2 screen and with nothing more than a quick flip of the trigger switch...

    Sure Would Have Been Nice.....

If they had designed the T-2 to use White's coils if they didn't plan on offering accessory coils of their own. Ralph
