Handheld pinpoint metal detector allowed on Carry On bags?

I have a Garrett pinpoint, handheld metal detector i want to take while panning in Arizona. Will TSA let me bring it on my carryon? It isn't too big, just wondering if TSA agent will be skeered of it and not let me bring it on.

    Titanium Hip Replacement???

Found this today while dirt fishing. My first thought was titanium replacement for a hip. But not sure. Anyone have any ideas on what this is?

Found flakes in a small stream...what should I look for upstream for the source?

I found a small stream on the side of a foothill, and it is full of flakes. I was thinking of moving upstream and testing the silt until I no longer find flakes. I figure that would put me near the source of the flakes. What should I be looking for on my way upstream to hopefully find a vein or...

Finding gold, but small. What does an ounce of flake look like?

I know it is not a lot, but where I found it, there is a LOT more to gather. Being small, it is difficult to extract it from the surrounding materials, but I have figured out a VERY simple way to do it, and this is about what I got in an hour or so. So, that said, how much of this stuff do I...

    Eagle II SL. Battery life?

How long with 4 c-cells last if I turn it on and just use it full time? How much longer if I use it with headphones? Trying to determine if I need to buy rechargeables... My other machine has run for over a year on 2 9-volts, but it isn't nearly as powerful and big as this one.

Eagle II SL...started reading instruction manual. WOW! Powerful machine!

I have been using an entry level Bounty Hunter Tracker IV for the past year, and have had a great time with it, but honestly, you can only dig up so many pop tops, bobby pins, and foil gum wrappers before you get a little tired of bending and digging. I inherited this Eagle II SL, and tried it...

Can I use Eagle II SL IN water?

I have been using a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in up to 3' feet of water (submerging all but the computer unit at the top). The instructions on the Eagle II SL say coil and pole are "waterproof". Does that mean "submergible" or just able to withstand a little rain and wet grass?

Eagle II SL. Any good? Recently inherited toy.

I have been using a very entry level Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. Fun, but I find mostly trash. A couple of coins in playgrounds. Today, I just "inherited" a White's Eagle II SL. Very good condition, 55 pages of instruction manual. Is this machine any good, or is it just another entry level...

Finding lots of silver-colored nuggets, various weights. How to identify?

I have been all over the southwest in the past few weeks, and I keep finding "nuggets" all silver in color. I have finally identified a couple as lead, but not definitely. At the beach in Texas yesterday, I found a couple more nuggets, not as heavy as the "lead" ones from the desert, but also...

Are these silver or lead? How to tell?

Found a bunch of stuff this morning, and these two nuggets have me confused. They seem a bit heavy, maybe lead? how can I tell for sure? Also several coins, a small pendant (need to determine if silver as well), a wheatie, and 50 centavo piece. The silver pieces are not magnetic. So that test...

Got good nugget hunting info from a shop in Anaheim, CA!!!

I happened to be in Los Angeles area late last week, and am planning on going nugget hunting over the Christmas break in Flagstaff and Yuma areas. So I needed a pickaxe for prying into and around rocks, and found (Edit - Non Sponsor), and paid him a visit. Besides having lots of really good...

Common question? Why demolished houses? I only found trash!

Everyone talks about searching old demolished homes, but I had the chance to do this and there was pretty much an unending TONE all over. Between old silverware, nails, and chunks of rebar, i didn't pick up anything of value. But I spent a LOT of time getting tones and digging junk up. So...

Gold nugget found in Yuma backyard???

My folks just moved into a house in a Yuma neighborhood, homes are about 8-10 yrs old. Their next door neighbor's dad is an old gold panner, and came to their house for Thanksgiving and was metal detecting in the back yard, and found a real-to-life gold nugget!!! So when I told my folks I was...

HELP! scanning around wooden structures, finding only nails.

Our lake is down 8' so boat docks are all above ground, as well as the bulkheads along the shore. Now, I KNOW I have lost keys, knives, etc. while fishing from these things. So I took the bounty hunter out and it is going NUTZ!!! Nails everywhere, and bolts, from the construction of the...

Took a kid dirt fishing today.

I am a counselor at a private school for emotionally disturbed kids. Today, I took one of my kids to the park, handed him the metal detector, turned it on, and away he went. He did well. First rattle out of the box, he finds a quarter. He finds, I dig. Then he finds some trash, but hits a...

Got my first detector today. Pic of my first treasures!!!:detecting:

First time out ever, with new toy I got today. Found a penny right off, then lots of trash. A gold earing of an angel. A bunch of foil, a couple cans, several pieces of heavy wire, and an old iron punch. And 20 cents. Did an elementary school playground in the mulch, and surface of a little...

    Lake Houston drought finds...

I live in a subdivision right off of Lake Houston in Houston Texas. We have had a serious drought this year (as you have probably heard, and wildfires out the yin-yang, trees dying, etc.). Anyways, went out on what should have been 8' deep water a couple weeks ago and started to collect glass...

Newbie! Hope this is where to post this. Got a list...

Hiya everyone. Just purchased a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV/TK4-PL (yes, very entry level, got it from Sam's Club online, and still on order, to be delivered on Thursday). Anyway, I am 39 yrs old, and been wanting a detector since I was in middle school. We live just off of Lake Houston in...
