    Hatteras

Can anyone tell me if one can metal detect around and near Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks? I'm going there this summer and want to know where I can, and can't metal detect. Thanks.....

    Tejon at the beach???

Am going to the beach this summer, and wondered if anyone has experience using a Tejon in the sand. I'm still learning the machine, and if I can guess, stay as far away from the wet sand as possible. Otherwise, how will it work? Any tips on hunting the outer banks area? Is it off limits...

    Probes

Will someone please explain the use of a probe, whether it's a screwdriver, ice pick, or commercial made? How do you use it to flip coins or whatever out of the ground? When do you use it? On what targets? What's the best material? Lots of questions. I'm fairly new, but have never tried this...

    Would you or wouldn't you?

My sister-in-law has a friend at work who's son wants a metal detector. My sister-in-law volunteered me to recommend one. He is almost eight years old. I hesitated to help, not knowing if there was someone around to teach him how to use it. More, or rather, most importantly, there are ethics...

    Tejon Users

I'm still getting used to the Tejon (and metal detecting) and have a question. What are some reasonable depths to find things? I have found .22 casings at 6 - 8 inches. Last night I found a screw cap at.... well, the depth of my pro-pointer....about ten inches? And it seems I could dig half way...

    Basic Detector Question...

Detector electronics question...... What does the threshold circuit do in a detector besides providing a "base"or "reference tone" to use to compare with the tones generated by a disruption in the detector's field? I frequently see comments about raising or lowering the threshold to increase...

    Why so many nails?

I finally was able yesterday to spend some quality time with my new Tejon. It was a trashy area, lots of this and that - wire, junk, a child's aluminum ring, a small lock, the usual trash. It was a noisy time. But what I wonder about is why I latched on to so many nails? I can understand...

    Got my new Tejon yesterday....

No foolin'. No banjo this time. No weed-eater this time. I got a brand new actual, working, beeping, Tejon yesterday. UPS brought it to the front door. That was right nice of them to do that. I didn't have much time to play with it except in the house after dark. OK, I did slip outside in my...

    Coinmaster 6000D GEB

Just bought a Coinmaster 6000D, GEB, for $15.00. Great condition. In the original box with the s/n written on it. I assume it was a good buy. I put batteries in it and it makes a noise. The pots are a bit noisy, but that can be fixed easily, I hope. I didn't have time to fiddle with it more...

    Coil wire winding direction...

OK, here's one for all you smart people out there. I have a new Tejon coming Monday.:clapping: I will have to put it together, of course. Being new to this addiction ( I can sense that already ), does it make any difference which way one winds the coil wire around the shaft...

    My new Tejon came today.....

Well, I ordered my new Tejon Monday, and it came today. I don't know what to think, though.......:surprised: I thought the coil was supposed to be 8x9. But I did order the 5.75" coil with it. I thought maybe they put the small coil on before they shipped it, but this one is only about four...

    Lesche Digger Question

I have been out a few times using my Lesche digger. I have found that the toothed edge is virtually useless for cutting through roots. They are not sharp, and are too thick to do much good. Has anyone sharpened the teeth, as is, with good results? Has anyone thinned down the blade with a file...

How do I hunt an old hotel?

I have a new Tejon coming in a couple of weeks. I also have found an old hotel, built in the early 1900s, to detect around, but.... it burned down in the 60s. Besides that, in the years before it burned it was home to many, many chickens! I'm new at this, and guessing, that one, charcoal is...

How do you like my new MD?

Hey everybody - I finally got my new Tesoro metal detector today!!!:clapping: I'm anxious to see how deep it goes and how well it discriminates out the trash.:detecting: It has the right tones, that's for sure, and although it's pretty heavy to lug around, I have been known to swing similar...

    "Tuning"

Comments please...... I am learning. I have found that the word "tuning" is thrown around very loosely to refer to different things. Most generally it seems that it refers to ground balancing. However, I have seen it used in relation to how a coil matches the machine it is on. Just what does...

How does a metal detector work?

Let's see......I've read 583 different articles or posts or comments or whatever, and I still don't really know how a metal detector works. Oh yes, they say adjust the threshold ( What exactly do you do when you adjust the threshold?), ground balance (What exactly do you do when you ground...

White's 5000D GEB Relative Scale Reading

I am learning this new thing called metal detecting and have a question. I acquired a White's 5000D GEB on the cheap, and it finds things! That's a good start. But here is a question that quite possibly exposes my novicecicity. It discriminates out nickels at the "7" level and pull-tab rings...

Will someone explain the types of pinpointers?

Being new to this addiction, I have read tons of material and posts and anything else available. I am a bit confused by the kinds of pinpointers available. I get the hand-held ones, propointer, vibraprobe, etc., no problem, but I don't understand the ones that are attached to the machine. How...

    Detector Pricing

Being in the market for a new machine, and looking in every nook and cranny to find dealers, I have to wonder if manufacturers ever relax their minimum advertised prices? When looking for model X made by manufacturer Y, the lowest price one can find is always the same, to the penny, regardless...

Vaquero vs. Tejon - for those of you who have both.

I'm new at this thing called metal detecting. I'm nearing paralysis. I have read.....I have studied.....ad paralyticum. Within two weeks I will be buying a new one, either a Vaquero or Tejon. I feel I can learn to use either. I will be looking for old coins, jewelry and relics - old farms and...
