10.5 inch 18.75 kWh. coil?

I know from reading Randy's postings on coils for the X-Terra 705 that the lower frequency coils will detect silver coins better, and the higher KHZ. coils will detect small gold and jewelry items better, My question is just how much of a sacrifice in using the 10.5" 18.75 DD coil will there be finding silver? I hunt mostly in parks and would like to look for the lost gold rings and jewelry, But also don't want to miss good silver targets,I also understand that all coils will find all metals.
The areas I hunt in have a ground balance mainly in low to mid 20"s (less than the 30% rule) if that means anything.
I have an ace 250 with a 10x14 accelerator coil and it made a huge positive difference in my finds especially in some of the big farm fields I hunt in.
I really like the DD coil I got on my ace and was wondering if the 10.5 in DD @18.75 kHz would do the same on the X-Terra 705 as it did on my ace 250.
The Ace has a fixed ground balance some ware around 6.75KHz.

On another note I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between the pinpoint mode and the pinpoint auto I've read the manual several time and cannot seem to figure out what the difference is between the two.

OK, I'll try to answer.
Lower frequencies tend to penetrate deeper. In highly minerized ground this isn't always a benefit, peticularly with a concentric coil.
A DD coil will always do better in high minerals than a comparable size concentric, and it has the benefit of better separation as well.

How much will you "sacrifice"? It depends on a miriad of environmental factors, but the bottom line will likely be "not much". The biggest sacrifice will be ID accuracy on high value targets. Be prepared to re-learn/refine the subtle differences in good targets compared to rusty bottlecaps. Your first few trips to the park, expect to come home with a pouch full of rusty bottlecaps. Once you learn to listen for the Pbunch sound, or the broken tones that BC's can return, you'll dig fewer of them.

As far as the pinpoint question goes......
I don't pay much attention to the ID in pinpoint, other than if it turns into a -6 it's usually junk. I've also found that pinpoint ID actually works pretty well for determining the size of the target, so I almost never bother with pinpoint sizing. Some switch to prospector mode to pinpoint, as it too will allow you to trace the outline of the detected object.

The whole idea of having so many options on your machine is only partly overall performance enhancement. The rest is to allow the user sufficent tailorable options to suit their hunting style. In other words, play with it. Find what works best for YOU. And yet remain flexible, as it will allow you to adapt to various situations that you may encounter.

I have both the 10.5DD coils and I really can't tell the difference between the two. Relic hunting, they both go as deep and find small targets..MO

Thanks for the replies:
I did'nt think about the target I.D factor involved but if I can learn to operate the 705 as well as I can now. I think relearning the TID's will be a small learning curve.
I was really thinking about the DD for locating the smaller gold jewlery but still be good for finding silver coins also.
I went out this morning to a small local park and came home with about $3.00 in clad a big ol brass hinge that weighs around 3lbs.
And best of all a 1962 rosie.
Now I need to decide on the round 10 inch DD 18.75Khz or the 5x10 DD.
Man I hate decisions.
Thanks guys and happy huntin
Hot and very dry here in Illinois.

I have the 10.5 DD 18.75 on my 705 and never take it off...Beach or park it is my favorite coil, its very light,it pokes in around chairs,tables,benches,etc...and is the most simple to target pinpoint...Good Luck HH

Do you have the round or the 5x10"?
I would think a little faster sweep could be used with the round coil when in big open areas with alot of ground to cover ?

When you say small gold, how small are you talking? I have the 18.75 DD elliptical coil and tested a small 18k earring. unless the earring was within an inch or two of the coil (in air tests) I could not get a signal. Even then, it was broken and something I would not have dug. Now if it was a tiny piece of aluminum, I could probably dig it at 6 inches. Maybe it would have worked better in gold prospecting mode?

I use the 5x10 elliptical that came with the 705 gold package...don't use a fast sweep...all metal mode at a not slow, but an easy going pace, sens as high as conditions allow...you wont miss the small gold if u dig the low TID #..small earring#4...charm#6...rings #8&12..Good Luck HH .

I'm thinking small gold chains or any small thin gold jewlery ,I would think your coil should pick up the ear ring much better than it does.
One of the advertiseing points on the 18.75 Khz.is small gold and jewelry.
And should be more sensitive to smaller targets,Can't wait to get one.

The absolute best coil for finding small/fine gold is the HF 6" DD.

Basic rule of thumb...the larger, deeper, or more conductive a desired target is, the larger the coil and lower frequency the better. And inversly, the smaller, shallower, less conductive a desired target is, the smaller the coil and higher frequency the better.

Yeah, it was a big surprise to me and a huge disappointment to my step-mom when I couldn't find her other earring.
