10th Regiment find

I was wondering if any of you can assist me with this. I found it at a home built in 1900 in Nebraska. It is copper and brass I think. It looks as though it was soldered onto something maybe a trophy or plaque. It has a name on the top line which looks like JJ Rauh or Bauh (script is very intricate). The second line states Co. I or 1 and the third is 10 Regt I.V.

Can anyone help me out?

Wow,

Just saw this and had to log on, fantastic find. That is a soldier's ID badge, probably Civil War era by the way it is hand engraved.

Very rare and would make the top find in anybodies book:clapping:

I have to guess those solder marks are where a pin used to be mounted. Whatever, that is one terrific find......I know I would be pounding that area relentlessly! Just another guess, but, I'm betting that is a pretty valuable item. Keep us posted on any more info you gather.

Best wishes for more great finds........

nebdirtturner,

Your find may be from the 10th cavalry, the African-American famed " Bufalo Soldiers." You should do more research on this interesting find, could be worth a lot of money.

Excellent find - a real piece of history - congrats !
