Thanks Snowy, I got the idea now. Jeff & Maria you are correct in that its a great time of year for us, as we can have our Christmas holidays in the summer, our weather is mostly not that extreme that it would keep you from beach detecting at anytime of the year, it's just the finds drop off considerably outside of the summer months.

You can buy the red bit with the ball from Bunnings in the tool department for $7 and all you need is a bit of 1/2" dowel and a fitting for the top, and a tight elastic band or bungy to spring on to the bottom to hold the stick in place, BUT, it keeps lifting out when you bend down to dig. It is still a lot cheaper than $65 that is being charged out here
