12-44 / 12-45

Me and a buddy of mine went out this morning. We found a lot of clad, a couple of wheat pennies, and I found my FIRST SILVER!!!

I had been digging 12-44's all morning getting clad dimes and copper pennies.

I got another solid 12-44 in two directions so I knew I had a coin. I was thinking probably another copper Penny or clad dime. Once I got the 2" plug out of the ground I stuck in my X1 probe. The numbers changed from 12-44 to 12-45. I knew it was going to be different this time. I loosed the soil around the hole and reached in to pull out a handful of dirt.

Sure enough, out popped a 1946 Roosevelt as shinny as the day it was dropped. A nice change from the rusty brown dimes I'm use to digging.

Anyway, no big deal, but at least I'm not a silver virgin any longer.

your very first silver coin ever? you have my congratulations and welcome to the club, and to the deep addiction to finding another.:clapping: there is nothing like seeing that shine in the dirt.

Yep, it's my first silver coin. I found an 1869 nickel (my oldest) but it's not silver. I've found charms, tokens, pins, clad, civil war bullet, etc. but this is my first silver.

My friend got an E-Trac recently. He found his first silver dime last week after the 3rd or fourth outing. It took me a couple dozen trips to do the same. Better late than never I guess. I think I'm finally getting use to the sounds and run much less discrimination than when I first started. I'll need to hunt again every place I've been so far. I'm sure I left a lot behind.

Here's the PSI THETA KAPPA pin I found last week.

Congratulations on your first silver coin, makes you want to do the happy dance:wiggle: Thanks for the picture and story. -- Randy

Congrats Joe on first silver :clapping: My first silver was about four years ago and thats when the silver fever hit. It put me in the dog house a few times with the wife, especially when I had to rent a combine to mow the lawn.

Any way theres much more out there and the more you use the E the more you learn and trust

Congratulations on your first silver coin! Way to go and thanks for the pictures.

Congratulations! Hopefully I'll be next. Been hunting since November and no silver coins yet. :(. I do have two silver charms but no coins. But I'm sure it will change soon. Just now getting my new ETRAC broke in. Keep it up joedirt!

Hang in there Stealtheagle. I got my E-Trac this past March and have gone out quite a bit since then. Now I know I was WAY too tight on my discrimination thinking at first that if it did NOT read an exact match then it must be trash. That was my first mistake. I probably walked over many decent opportunities out of ignorance.

My E-Trac was probably talking to itself behind my back the whole time:

"Ping Ping. Oh, you don't want that one? OK, how about this one? Ping Ping. What? It's not reading a perfect 11-47 for a silver quarter? You're kidding right? It's next to a nail, what do you expect Mr. Perfect! Whatever. Let's try this one. Ping Ping. Did you just say it's probably another zincoln and step over it? Sheeze..... Ping Ping. Yeah that's a pull tab you jerk. Oh, you're gonna dig that one. Sorry, my bad. Ping, Ping. No, it's not another piece of aluminum it's a ring dig it!!! Oh, you don't like that signal and think you need to mask out more of our options just to be safe. Ping Ping. Here's the band to go with the ring. Did you just say you didn't like the sound of that either? Oh your mother must have been proud of you as a kid. Ping Ping, yeah it's a 40 ounce beer bottle top. I'm trying to give you a hint, I think you need a drink and just chill out on all your button pushing. Oh, you have it zeroed in now, really? We'll see. WHAT! Just 6 squares open on the mask? Are you serious? Do you really wanna keep playing this stupid game? You keep doing me like this and I'll make your life miserable buddy, I promise. Sorry, I'm sure that was unprofessional, let's try again. Ping Ping. Shocking! You're not digging that one either because it's too deep and you don't have a pin pointer yet? Can you sell me, please? No, really. This is painful. I know you're not having fun and well, to be honest, I'm just embarrassed. If I have to read one more post on how the ACE 250 can run circles around me I'm going to short circuit myself. What? you're ready to loosen up on the numbers and start listening to what I'm trying to tell you? That's all I ask, just give me some room to breath. Yeah, open up the screen some, a little more, nice. That's real nice. Smell that? Yeah, it's silver. Let's go get it."

LOL....very well done!:clapping: i never tightened up my disc. to a choke-hold like it sounds like you did but my etrac and i definitely were not on the same page for quite a while there either.

if it did NOT read an exact match then it must be trash. That was my first mistake. I probably walked over many decent opportunities out of ignorance.

lol...i know what you mean....i could go over almost everywhere ive been since April 1st and listen for the deepies or stuff next to trash. thats what i dont like when people say "its so easy, turn on and go".....i know i missed a lot of stuff.

Congrat's on your first Silver !
From what I've seen many times ... a Silver Dime will bounce or stay on CO 45 more than 44 - the Clad Dime's seem to stick on CO 44 and not go to 45.
