1723 II REALE - REPOST (DEEP/FAST 'ON')

SINCE THE DEBATE HAS STARTED AND MY REALE HAS BEEN BURIED BEFORE IT'S TIME...
I hunt with fast and deep "ON" in highly mineralized soil. This is one of 5 reales found in last 4 months.
Experience has shown me that whenever I turn off 'deep - I miss stuff. How do I know because I go back over same area and discover signals that just were not there when deep was set to 'OFF'.
When I turn off fast - I find that shallow coins next to junk can easily be missed. If you think all good coins are at 12" - you are mistaken.
This works for me and perhaps something else works for you. I go with what I know works for me. So chalk another one up for the fast/deep "ON" crew.
Theory is great - reality is often much different.
good luck all! And Happy Thanksgiving!

However, your reality is correct as far as the theory is concerned. You should hear deeper hits with audio boost ON. That is what DEEP is designed to do give you a stronger hit on ultra deep targets. It is very important if Audio Gain is set to 5 or below as the audio is modulated at these settings. That is correct in theory and application so what you are doing is correct for deep faint targets. The only disadvantage is faint shallow targets also give a stronger hit. This problem does not seem to bother most people.
Have a good one and Happy Thanksgiving,
HH, Cody

and that isnt by going back over ground already covered and finding something cause we all do that all the time, even with exact same settings...
Next time you get a deep signal or any signal you feel like checking just switch to another setting and see if you still hear the target.. I am almost always in fast... and I dont see too many things beimg found in my tracks But I am guilty of not swtching modes to see if it makes a difference on my targets... easier for me to tell others to do it.. with the limited amount of signals I even hear any more I am much too interested in diggng it up then playing with the settings

I do know of two coins that I found that I am sure I checked turning Fast OFF and then seeing the signal vanish in iron hits. But that was at an especially iron laden site. As a matter of fact at the one site of the two, I purposely went back and hunted it in FAST just to see if I could make more finds and the coin I found using it was basically in the same hole I found one earlier that week..
But, again, I prefer not to hunt with FAST on.

but will vary from place to place, and person to person, so a post stating your results would only be for interest sake.
I do agree with more digging than playing with settings. There might be many adjustments better than what I'm doing, but I'm happy with the results, so I'll continue to just beep and dig. Until someone starts really hammering me from hunt to hunt I will not change anything.
and it isn't really much of a test going over beat ground and finding a few targets because many of us do it all the time.

Have you ever considered this? I believe I have a topic of discussion that needs to be addressed. Has anyone tried a side by side comparison with the same exact machines? I know this sounds strange but I have done this with 2 Identical explorers II. The results will amaze you. In my findings I honestly believe some detectors are hotter than others. I have run Identical settings on 2 brand new explorers and one will pick up the target, while the other would miss it some times. Yes I shut off the other explorer first and the frequency's and settings were identical. I was almost in shock. Think about this. One detector could pick up a dime better than the other while the other would pick the penny a little deeper. Every detector I believe is a little different in the way it reacts. I also believe that not every detector was made by the same person, so it is possible that one setting could work better on one machine while on another machine wouldn't work so well. Now that's a fact. To many variables to think about from this post but one things for sure, you have to learn what works best for you and your machine. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

With as many small glitches (temp. ones) I have seen on Explorers over the past few years I have no problem believing some perform different than others on permanent terms.
As for myself, I currently have 2 XS models right now but haven't done any side by side testing. As for regular use I haven't noticed a difference between the two which Is the way I prefer it.

To the tune of the Monkeys >I'm a believer<
==========================================
I thought reales were just a fairy tale
meant for someone else but not me
Taste greats were out to get me,
that's the way it seemed
Fast was 'on' and deep was but a dream
But then I switched deep 'on'
and now I'm a believer
But then I switched deep 'on'
and now I'm a believer
Fast was 'on' and deep
made a perfect team.
Maybe you don't like to find lots of coins
maybe fred's rings aren't your cup of tea
Taste greats were out to get me,
that's the way it seemed
Deep was 'on' and fast was but a dream
But then I switched fast 'on'
and now I'm a believer
But then I switched fast 'on'
and now I'm a believer
Fast was 'on' and deep
made a perfect team.

especially on models where most of the processing is done digitally. Tom, did you try switching coils on the two units?
That sounds like a great way to compare. I'm usually too lazy to try a bunch of different settings/coils on targets I find. Too eager to dig. Perhaps having two units would help, but I still bet I would be too lazy to carry the second around.

whereas my buddy who has the EXII does?
But last weekend I found a Mercury dime that he didn't find. Well I have to tell you though that he was at one end of the park and I was at the other. That might make a little difference.
But really, I've always wondered about my Explorer.

Hi 007,
That`s a beautiful find- here`s a few of mine from last year about this time. I went out a little yesterday and found some junk and only one Injun (1907)- but we don`t really count those. I LIKE THE OLD STUFF!!!
We`ve still got crops in our best fields, so I hope to add to this small collection- SOON!!
My Reale is 1769, holed Half Reale is 1791, and two cut pieces of a Two Reale date to 1720`s or 30`s.My buddy Aaron (who has now moved away) found a 1780 Half Reale, a holed 1781 Half Reale, a cut in half Cob type Reale circa late 1600`s, and one cut piece of a Four Reale. All were found on a local old town site. We`ve beat it pretty good. We`ve found Spanish, English, early U.S., and Civil War Era items.
Anyway, I wanted to post something and as I haven`t found anything good lately - I had to dig out something. Happy Thanksgiving to All and Happy Hunting!!! God Bless,- Charlie in NC

The basic Explorer on factory settings appears to be more consistent than most detectors that I have used.
I remember arguing with a Tesoro dealer about why some new search heads would run smooth while others chirped all over the place. In the end I worked out that the heads had to be internally tuned into the individual machines so buying new heads mail order was not a good idea.

Fred
