1739 Farm House Hunt - 1943 Silver Half Recovered- TTF Hunt

I started detecting a friends 1739 farmhouse yard the other day with great results. I was told it had been detected by someone before they bought it and my friends father had also tried it with his low end detector but he didn't find anything except for nails... But when I brought in the E-trac the finds it really demonstrated what a great detector it was.

I am embarrassed to admit but I actually re-covered the hole that ended up giving up the half dollar. I was going to walk away since it had an awkward signal but after sweeping the coil over the hole after I covered it back up I decided to find out what was down there, lo and behold out pops the silver at about nine inches down. I only did a minuscule portion of the yard and I am hoping that there are many more treasures to find.


This E-Trac is amazing.... In total I found nine coins one button and only six pieces of trash. I am using TTF and going slow.

The owners told me that I was apt to find nothing since there was so much junk everywhere when they bought the place but they couldn't believe what I found in such a short time.

so what kind of sound did the half dollar make that made you want to leave it?

The sound was weaker and it wasn't a smooth tone, but the Conductivity was right on.The Ferrous numbers jumped around quite a bit but within an acceptable range of I think 9 and 10. I would honestly say that a big part of the reason I hesitated to keep on digging the first time was that I only had a bit of time to hunt, and it had just rained a bit so everything was getting muddy. Thank Goodness I dug it back up...

I am guessing you were running auto +3, correct?

Yes.. I was going to mention that.... Being new to the E-trac I have to do some more research on Auto vs Manual. I come from the Explorer world where I was always running as high as I could in manual... It seems that E-trac users don't do that as much... Please anyone correct me if I am wrong.

I do (manual) and I am sure many others do to. That is the only way to go for me, it will get you the depth you want.

I did do a quick air test at home earlier this week and was amazed at the difference in "depth" I was getting in Auto vs Manual. I know, I know this is no where near replicating real world conditions but it does give you an idea...

mulitfrequency does better in ground then air, you will get superb depth in manual.

Since that rather modern half (1943) was as deep as it was (9 inches) at a 1793 Farmhouse I will probably have to go over the area again in Manual Sensitivity running it as high as I can without losing complete functionality to reach the older coins
