1794 Half Cent -4th 1700 coin from this millsite

I went back to the millsite that previously yielded lots of old buttons and two 1796 Large Cents and one 1784 Counterfeit British Halfpenny.
I started hunting very close to the paved road and within a few minutes of starting the hunt this morning, I was rewarded with a nice old coin.

At first I thought is was a two cent piece but quickly felt the lettering on the edge of the coin and new I had one of the oldest Half Cents, since only the early year Liberty Cap Half Cents had Edge Lettering. This one reads TWO HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR around the edge of the coin, thus the early large cents were thicker than later ones.

The soil was not particularly kind, but it is not in too bad shape overall. I am really surprised on getting these four coins there and nothing in the 1800's.

You can see in the one photo how close to my truck and the paved road the location of where I found this half cent.

The photos are the site itself if you look hard it is showing the old road from the 1700's that went by the house and to the dam breast of the mill.
The second photo is off some wild blueberry bushes in the area, looking like a great year for the highbush blueberry in South Jersey.
The rest of the photos self-explanatory. :)

Fantastic Coin Find there Don! That is about a $500 Coin or better! You truly have a Honey Hole so far for pre-1800 Coins and I hope it continues for you. Maybe your next Coin will be a Silver and just as old. Good Luck and HH.:super:

Certainly nice coin from reading your posts sure have some old area to hunt in and hope to see some more in the near future..In my area a hundred year old coin is more like a nice find. Watch a deer don't run over you as it looks like some of the deer hunting area of my younger days...and yes have found some nice coins myself in this type of area along with seeing, turkey, bear and even a nice 10 point buck..Remember when hunting season kicks in be careful as a swinging coil can imitate wildlife...and buy an orange jacket...Read the State game lands Pa. poster the other day and not allowed to remove anything over a hundred years old so afraid in my area would have to be thrown back lest a fine(I don't think so would be more applicable

Very nice Don! Jersey soil seems to be kinder to coins than PA soil.
