The US mint was just getting started around that time.

Yep those early dimes were bigger, I got fooled by the 1796, thought for sure I was looking at a 2 reale and was shocked to see lady Liberty like you guys. Welcome to the draped dime club George, rare dig... Congrats

Yes your correct just like the gold coins a $2.50 back then is bigger than a new $5.00 gold coin
