1806 Spanish Reale numbers

The other day I dug a 1806 1/2 Reale @ 3". The reason I am writing this is because it came in @ 12/43 which I consider the Memorial penny range or I had thought that with my Etrac. This is a different machine and you can't expect silver to ring up high like it did with the other Minelab units. I am hunting in Ferrous Coin and my cut off for the highest tone is 44 and up. We all need to be very cautious when we play the dig or not to dig game. This was a very old site and that would have me digging any target like this but you know how it goes. You don't find it all unless you dig it ALL

Very good point Todd, I dig all good signals. I will have silver dimes come in at 12/43 however the 3" deep will have me assuming its a penny or clad dime. My only seated dime was 1" deep, dug it with the pinpointer. There are too many signals with these machines that overlap. The Auctori Connec was a wheat signal 12/40, and the list goes on....DIG IT!

A half reale is much different than a one reale. It has less silver content than a dime, which will make it ring lower. I bet it comes in around the same on an etrac. On my White's some half reales come in down around the zinc cent range. I have found silver chain rings that come in around the nickel range because it is actually one ring made up of 100's of tiny rings.

I've dug a lot of silver with an Etrac and you know most of the time that your digging silver with an Etrac. Its not the same with the CTX. I'm not saying its bad or anything just not the same.

I never pass on a zinc hit to many good coins there manly Indians , small silver , and sometimes gold you never no . I probably have never passed on a reale because there not where I hunt .lol sube

I dig all 11/39 and up. i have found reales at 12/41. If you want to find good stuff you have to dig it all!!!
No picking or choosing, just dig!!

I have recovered silver dimes with a 12/41 reading on several occasions. Zinc pennies usually 12/38-39 or so, copper pennies up around the 12/40-44 range. A lot will depend on the angle the coin is laying in the ground and the other misc. metallic items or multiple coins together.....Most of the desirable coin targets will read very close to the same as the E-trac. For me that made the change to the CTX (as far as acceptable targets and disc patterns) relatively simple. An exception to this can be with silver halves and silver dollars. Depending on the Target Separation you select, those large silvers can be either up on the 1 Fe or down on or near the 12 Fe line, as shown on the TID list over in the CTX Resources forum.

Todd, I forgot to add that I have seen your posts showing many of you nice finds with the E-Trac. I think as time goes you add many more with the CTX. ....Good Luck

If we are going to talk about numbers for everything we have to remember that the numbers change quite a bit with the CTX based on the mode you are running in remeber the chart in the resource center from Digger. the modes plus the ground conditions equal guys swearing that zincs are 12/38 and another guy swears your nuts and they always come in at 12/41.

If you don't dig 12:32 to 12:36 you are missing indianheads in my soil!!

Memorials 12:42 to 12:44
Zincs 12:38 to 12:39
Wheats 12:40 to 12:41
Silver from 12:40 to 12:47

Combined ferrous coin mode

I have dug silver dimes at 12:39 on up to 12:46. It depends on many factors and each one can change the number differently. Ferrous coin will usually be lower on numbers compared to Ground Coin. Ground Coin will usually give you a true number whereas FC will kind of combine them into a general number.

Best discriminator is a shovel + your eyes! If it is a solid repeatable number with a decent target trace I dig. I sometimes pass on large, shallow overload type signals. Best way to not miss something good is to dig it all. Oh and just for comparison purpose in my area :Silver comes in at 12-41 to 12-46
Copper cents/wheats 12-40 to 12-44
Zinc cents 12-34 to 12-38
Indian heads 11-37 - 12-35

fyi - We use an Etrac and my boyfriend found a Spanish reale (dime size - very worn) and it read 12:30. I ran my coil over it a few times....12:28 to 12:30. If you are at an old place, DIG IT!!

The only question I have is... Why are we even having the number discussion when we paid $2500 for the top of the line detector. Also, why do we have the ability to download new operating system, when we havent seen any updates since the salt water update. Was hoping to see more development and updates. Just a little frustration Im having. Sorry had to say it, been killing me.

I dug a 1/2 Real about a month ago with my ML Safari & it also came up in the Memorial penny range. I was just as shocked, to think how many of those signals I have passed up. I only dug it because it was deep.

I get Indians all the time at 12/35 - 12/37. I'd rather dig an extra piece of junk than miss a good coin.
