1868 Oil Kerosene Lamp and Some Small Stuff

The weather has been Amazing! The ground for the most part is moist not muddy and easy to dig.

Got out for some short hunts the last few days and I found the Antique 1868 Oil Kerosene Lamp P & A Brass Burner today with the 1934 S Wheat

There are a total of 11 nickel (one Canadian) which I find more and more often since I use Bill S. trashy Park Program

The 1974 Clad Kennedy was found by Brian at a Small Center Park I "discovered" which I had passed many times before and stopped at recently and found out
It was established in 1876 and to confirm the ground was soft enough( I was in a suit and heels, my day job) I improvised and dug my high heel into the soil and smiled

Nice improvisation with the heel. Glad you didn't break it!! Yeah got to keep the eyes open one just never knows what you may see and find while driving around. Nice going.

I don't think I have ever saw anyone detecting in high heels, my hat is off to you.

The Lamp was found on the same property/park that had been owned by a Civil War General and where I found my 1863 New York State Civil War Token
I also found a previous Oil Lamp at a Cellar Hole and that was a very different experience than this manicured property!

And NO I never would have believed that I could detect in January and February, last year with the Weather and Rains I was unable to detect until June

I do not detect in Heels I was improvising and used the "tools" I had so I could figure if the ground was soft enough to dig and return another day
And it is no big deal to wipe those heels from mud if it means I can DETECT....just a little addicted
However, I always carry a change of clothes with my detector when I anticipate a "Long Lunch To Detect" if I am working out of the home

I do want to add that when I told Brian that the "Discovered Center Park" was established in 1876, he said, "It's NOT that OLD", I suppose he was joking but I got MAD
We only had an hour there last weekend because we were not really prepared and Brian found the Clad Kennedy but there was not any other Old Stuff Found Yet
You know I will be returning to that 1876 Center Park and maybe I can find some Silver, I found my oldest coin, 1810 LC at a park that was established in 1977!

Hi Eva - I too have an interesting story about finding an old oil lamp and a Large Cent.

I was hunting a Civil War camp site where the Battle of the Wilderness took place and ran my MD over a fallen tree. Got a signal and used my knife to start digging into the tree. About an inch or two into the tree, I found my target and carefully cut it out. Turned out to be the wick mechanism of an oil lamp similar to what you found. It must have been left hanging on the tree and the tree grew around it. The Battle of the Wilderness was fought May 5

Now that's some nice diggs!! I have found two kerosene lamps but yours is in much better shape. The ones I found disintegrated in my hands as soon a I pulled them out of the ground. Way to go!!

I am adding some Photo's of the other Oil Lamp part i found and some further details of the one i just found.
When I found the original oil lamp part, I learned that the age of the part is on the face of the turn knob
I hope you can see it, I tried and the 1868 oil lamp part was identified when I did a search on line
The funny thing is I remembered the other oil Lamp part as older and in fact it is 22years newer (1890)
