NH Bob

New member
Pat. date 1835.
Another farm field coughs up a nice find. Spoon handle is made in a loop.
Monogram.

Handle is also dated.

And best of all this is what I found when I cleaned it.

THAN THAT. THAT IS DEFINITELY A GREAT FIND. ITS NOT OFTEN A PERSON FINDS SUCH A GREAT ITEM.

It was lunch time and dad was working in the field. Mom and their child brought lunch to dad and they all sat on this little knoll to eat. A beautiful sunny day as they sat in the grass. When it was time to go Mom picked up everything and the spoon got dropped. That was probably 100 years ago. In 2007 along came NH Bob and his state of the art Metal Detector and Wha La. I was the next person to touch that spoon. Do you know the feeling.

great silver there bob.i have a question for you,in all metal all the time, can you tell treasure from trash,or do you have to switch back to disc.also is there a great difference in the se and the2. i,m debating between the two and will appreciate comments from you and others pleeease.::cheekkiss: thanks to all

Treasure from trash ? yes as easy as any setting you can have on you Explorer. What All Metal does is let you hear everything in the ground. Of course in AM you are also running in Ferrous so all your high pitch tones are to the right of the screen where all the good metal is. You learn to ignore the low drowns of iron and are alerted to the better metals. You still have to deal with the pull tabs but that's where my buttons and other unique items come in also. Others that hunt more populated areas find their rings in the zone and they deal with it in there own way. Most areas are not too trashy and good signals are easy to pick up on. When hitting a trashy area (for me would be nails and such) I just slow down and work threw it. I do NOT switch back and forth from screen to screen or setting to setting. I learn what my machine is telling me and I keep it simple. I achieve maximum depth and am alerted to everything under my coil. What more could one ask for.
As far as I am concerned other than a few updates on the screen and easier access to settings the greatest difference is the weight/Balance change. I notice it more than most as I have back problems and gave up my XS II for that reason. I am glad I gave the SE a chance. I find it easier to hunt with. Both machines are top shelf.
Just my opinions.

Congratulations to you on that very nice find you got. That sure is a great addition to your collection I'm sure and makes me wish I could find one like that. I wonder how much that Spoon is worth? But then again, who cares about that, it is a very decorative piece and sure beats finding a worn out Large Cent. Continued Success to you NH Bob and Good Luck and HH to you in 2007.

Of what was going on that day and why and who dropped the item found. Just wish the items could talk because age doesn't do Old Relics and Coins Justice. Just think, 100 years from now, if Detecting is still a hobby or a thing of the past, people that find todays items will think the same questions we do. Can you tell I love this hobby and History? Hope I wasn't rambling on too much. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

Sure is very nice..... I'd work that area over and over. Had to show the pic to the wife - way more than once too. Nice

I spent 3 days in there. My buddy got an 1898 Barber Half and a no date 1/2 cent. My best find was the spoon. I'll take it over yhe 2 coins any day:spin:

A Gold coin, Pinetree shilling, Fugio or NH State copper would make me feel better.
