For Northwest Missouri, It’s unusually nice for this time of year. So I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday, Jan. 5, and got out with the Manticore for about 4 hours. I'm still in the learning mode with my new Manticore, but I do like it a lot. I went to an area now being farmed but was a small NW Missouri town years ago. The sidewalks have been removed for the farming operation and where they had been is where I concentrated my detecting. It really paid off, even though my total keeper count was not impressive at all (total was: 2 wheaties, 3 nickels, a gold plated drop from a necklace, and a Missouri tax token.) However, as luck had it, 2 of the nickels were Buffalo nickels, 1916-D and 1936-D, and the third nickel was an 1867 Shield nickel, without rays. For the Wheaties, one was a 1920-D and the other wheatie turned out to be my best find for a long time, maybe ever. It turned out to be a rare 1914-D. Even though the keeper number was down and I did not find any silver, the 1914-D Wheat cent put things over the top for me. I did not check any dates until after I got back home, so what a nice surprise it was!
