1st Gold of 2016!....Dig the 'solid' numbers and tones.

Goldstrike

Well-known member
I posted this find on the "Today's Finds' forum as well but wanted to share here how the t.i.d was solid and the tone was solid swinging the coil from different angles on my Safari and I just had the gut feeling it must be gold before I dug. Another reason to post again is that I thought I had covered this park really well several times before and because it was about 2 inches down, this wasn't a fresh drop so it's safe to say that there are always good targets most everywhere we go. Don't get discouraged if your not finding much and keep swinging that coil! It's only a small find but at 3.55 grams of 14K gold and looking so pretty! I'm happy for now!

Thanks kschae4!...........I think it's Onyx but not 100% sure. It came up as a solid 11 with a solid tone. With your 10K ring and my little gold earring, I think we both have got off to a good start this year!!!

GS, very nice, great start to the new year. Love the design.. I don't know gems, is it onyx, may be opal ? Curious as to what it's stats were when you decided to dig ?

Any day I dig up silver is a Good Day for me. Any day its GOLD......WTG!

Look at the stone at the highest magnification that you have and see if it has any tiny bubbles, inclusions, or fracture planes. That would indicate that its a natural stone and not manmade.

Beautiful piece Goldstrike! An 11 on the tid ??!! Hmmm. All I ever dig at the beach is foil and other trash on an 11. Will have to pay more attention to those 11s and the solid tones. Sometimes I get weird numbers and also see posts of nice finds with numbers that I would not have thought would yield anything of interest. Wonder why that is. I agree that you can still detect decent finds at those sites that have been heavily hunted. Thanks for sharing GS.

Sanderling....I love to see 11-12's because for me it's been gold before....BUT....also mostly pulltabs come up as well in that range that are malformed/cut, hit by the mower etc. BTW...For me 9's virtually all the time are foil and so I do not dig 9's. I know others have dug rings on 9's but it never has worked for me!!

Thanks KinTN.......I can see some imperfections but I need to run it by a jeweller to be sure what it is. Yep, silver is always welcome but gold always makes my day!!lol!

That's great news. Be sure to let us know what the pro sez.

Thanks for the comments! Update......I have been back to the park 2X's and to the location where I found this earring and did my very best using different coils/techniques but couldn't find the matching one. I knew it was a very slim chance to find the other but I'm confident now that it's not there but I had to try. I still think if someone could put a gold ring shank on it, it would make a really cool ring:thumbup:

That really is a nice piece Goldstrike and would make a pretty ring. Hope you can find the mate and you can have his and her rings if you want. Keep trying.

I was hunting this year digging 13 and above and also 7 and 8 open when my nephew walked over and showed me a very nice antique ring 18K in an area I just hunted it too rang in at 11, I now dig 11 and above.
