Hello all!
Last 2 days have been filled with Swinging and Digging... and some frustration as I hit a shallow copper...
Day one... It was warm with dew on the ground... Let the digging begin
Button were coming pretty regular in the beginning of the day... I recovered a large musket ball about 11am... then I got a 10/18 12/18 1" signal... I could see writing... and No. 2 on the botton... but this wasn't english...

Metal buttons bearing the Phoenix bird, the motto "Je Renais De Mes Cendres" which roughly translates to "I rise from my own ashes". A number have been found in quantity in historic sites along the lower Columbia River, and less commonly throughout western North America. Phoenix buttons were not made for Napoleon, as often claimed, but were manufactured by an English firm in the early 1800's for King Christophe of Haiti. The Phoenix bird and the motto come from his coat of arms; the numbers refer to regiments. These military uniform buttons were brought to the Northwest before 1835 by an independent trader, most likely Nathaniel Wyeth, who probably used uniform coats, which he may have obtained earlier when shipping ice to the West Indies, to trade for fish for his salmon packing plant on the Columbia River.
I didn't get a copper until 3:03 on day one... I don't see any detail here to ID her... 8(
Day two started with the sun out... but a little windy...
My first coin came in about 2.5 hours into the hunt... This was a strange signal bouncing and FE was not stable at all... about 8" down... but I kept seeing Conductive of 40 42...
Once I got it out the Conductive read 38...
I saw the cut coin and was hoping this was spanish silver... but I could read the UNITED right away and knew the size was that if a US Large Copper... Cut 1/4...
More buttons... and I even had a 10/9 signal that ended up being a nice forged nail (small spike)...
Stopped @ 1pm(ish) for a drink then got back our gridding... 12/44 12/45 @ 3-4"... Come on be a coin... and old coin...
1817 Matron (Cornet) Head US Large Cent... Pretty decent spape for a farm field...
Picking were pretty slim for the next 90 minutes to 2 hours... Then I got a 12/46 signal, then 35/45 35/48... It seemed like a good signal mixed in trash but I could not be sure... and it was not deep... I should have taken more time to carefully pinpoint.... :-(
179X Cap Liberty Large Cent...
I'll be back out there for at least a few hours tomorrow...
