2 large men's gold rings with 1 to 3 carat diamond

Went out hunting with a buddy of mine yesterday and found 2 large men's rings, one with a carat diamond the other with about a 3 carat diamond. Both read 12-46. They turned out to both be fake. One was gold filled I don't know what the other is made of. Seems strange they both hit 12-46. I've had that happen one other time on a large man's ring that wasn't silver. I once found a massive ring about 3 x's the size of these and got a 12-13 reading? Any theories?

Lots of posts about the gold content of rings here on previous threads. All rings are not the same and they give off readings up and down the scale. Small rings come in in the wee numbers and large in the area you found yours. I hve found lots of rings and when I am focusing on ring finding I dig most everything on the scale and around it. One thing may help ...they ussually give a very nice ROUND sound and are not to broken up for me so I distinguish them by the sound.

good luck
