2013 First Full Year Of Finds And First Silver Of 2014

I have hunted on and off for 22 years but never have put the time into the hobby to hunt through a full year. Some years I did not hunt at all. I got back into detecting last summer and upgraded my 15 year old detector to an Etrac. 2013 was the first year that I have ever hunted at least once a week. I made some nice first finds for me with an 1839 Seated Half Dime, 1842 Large Cent, 1903 Barber Quarter, 1943 Walking Half and my first Shield & V nickels. I ended the year with 72 silver coins and added a few more Civil War Relics to my collection.

New Years Day was sunny and in the low 50's. I was able to get out for a couple of hours and lucked up on my first silver for the new year. A Canadian dime far from home but was excited to see it in the hole.

This hobby is a lot of fun and a blast when you can share it with others, I have a great wife and two kids that enjoy going with me and seeing what all I find. I also get out and hunt with a friend that I met through the forum and have a great time. I hope 2014 brings a lot of nice finds and first for everyone! HH David

Dave: That is a fantastic year and I still have not found a V nickel. lol. I love seeing all your coins together like that. An 1839 seated half dime ...WHOA!!! Fabulous. I'm looking forward to seeing what you dig up for 2014!! Thanks for sharing this post and great job on that silver Canadian dime. I can't wait to get out already but we have more than a foot of snow now!!! So nice to hear about your lovely family as well.
