I'm not very good at this and not sure how/where to start.
Before I get going, what readings do you get on you Flying Eagle cent? I'm definitely in some places where I might run my coil across one.
Anyway............
Last summer, I began taking trips to visit my sister in Northern PA. She had obtained permission for me to hunt some private yards and I was very happy coming home with 2 silver coins per weekend, a LOT of wheats with the occasional Indian Head and a ton of change. My big weekend was last Labor Day when I came back with 5 silver! I had discover not 1 but 2 undetected parks that were really giving the stuff up. Needless to say, I've been chomping at the bit to get back up there since I was seen by several people due these places being in high traffic areas. To my great pleasure, they were left untouched so I got a second season shot at them. Last weekend, I hunted the smaller of the 2 relentlessly for 3 days. Whatever was left there was going to be mine.
Last weekend's Hunt produced 7 silver! My best yet!!: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,1705582,1705582#msg-1705582
I think I got almost all of it. The targets are very few and far between now. I lost count, but somewhere in the "teens" total silver coins came out of there. I'm sure there's another silver coin or 2 plus wheats left and will reserve that for a "nowhere else to go day." Whoever follows us will have to work hard to eek some out. The second park is much larger and so far 4 silver coins have shown themselves. In the process of hunting these places, I have had people approach me and asked if I would like to detect their yards. Also, people my brother-in-law and sister work with have offered. They do not work at the same place which doubles the score. My brother-in-law has been bitten by the bug. With that will come more permission for us to detect. As he has seen the E-trac in action last summer and the start of this, he is hanging up his older White's in the garage. His E-trac should be delivered on Tuesday. 3 day weekends may not do it in order to keep up with the new areas we seem to be accumulating. I may have to quit my job. LOL!
Commercial Break..............(Thanks for your help with that Richard! ---- Backwood's Detectors --- GREAT guy to deal with.)
Anyhow, that brings us to this current hunt. It was like stepping into a time capsule. This property has not been used heavily since the beginning of the last century (1900-1920). My brother-in-law knows the caretakers (BIG plus!!!!!) There is little or no trash so when we run over a target it jumps right out. This place is a metal detecting dream! We haphazardly and rough scanned the place on Sunday morning (Only 4 hours!!! Believe it or not.) with not much rhyme or reason and I came up with the older stuff - 7 of the Indians, the V nickels and the Seated coins. We only worked in about 1/3 of the site. The newer silver and wheat came from a combination of the small park and the larger park. I "finished out" the small park on Saturday morning. It still gave up 3 more silver you see in the picture.
When my brother-in-law's E-trac comes in, he is going to go back and start gridding the first part we hunted an hour or so after work each day this week. I'm not sure if I can get back up there next weekend or not. If not, it will be the 3rd weekend (June 16th?) before my next trip up.
I will keep you all posted.....................
