2nd Water hunt this year!! Silver and Gold

1:30PM Mr. Dual Field, Diablo and this old hunter waded out into the 39 degree water of Long Island Sound to scout for any place where conditions would allow a good hunt and we got lucky!!

3.5 hours of my second hunt this year produced 39 targets recovered including a 1' tall religious medallion in sterling (It's very thin from the salt water and weighs only 2.4 grams) and a nice 28.7 grams jewelry medallion in 10K that has glass stones (a few of which are missing).

I kinda "had a feeling" about this spot and it payed off with about $480.00 worth of gold at today's prices!! (Assuming it's all gold and it is heavy enough to be that.)

Just as the beautiful setting sun disappeared in the western horizon I headed for shore glad I had found the weather and water conditions favorable for a good hunt!!

The maker's mark looks like a fire breathing mythological animal with a wheel or shield at its side.

The metal seems too brite for 10K so I did an acid test.

At 10K no effect, at 14K it took a while to break down so I suspect it may be high end 10K to 12K!! Is this a great hobby or what!!!!!!!!

Got a better pic of the Gryphon too!

Thats a great trophy!:surprised: It could be quite old, very unusual looking...since the bale isnt broken, you figure the chain it was on is close by? or you figure the wave action could have tossed that medal a ways? :shrug: A big medallion like that would have had a large chain! Nice find! Good way to start off the year with some big gold!

WTG C.J. congrats on those 2 finds! I immediately thought when I saw that pendant "where's the chain"? There has to be a heavy chain out there at that spot somewhere!!!!:clapping:I hope the weather warms up and is favourable for you to go back out there again and find it.....good luck!
 
I guess Mud and I had the same thing in mind but posted just before I did LOL!!!
 
What a great find! Well done mate, your site reading skills paid off big time! Good luck finding the chain, there might be other bits close by as well, keep us posted :)

This spot has yielded some old finds in the past and Always something nice!!

I'll be carefully checking the spot for the chain, but it is a heavy traffic spot where many hunters have searched.

Another shift in the sandy/stony bottom may be the answer!!!

Yeah, CJ..cant help thinking about that chain! ...been thinking about it all morning!

I dont know PI's capabilities on chains...gotta be pretty good right? Still, I bet you need to get within I'm guessin 8 vertical inches of it? And really be good to boot? I'm thinking the chain that held that is a very big one, 32" 'er at least...trying to see that on a box link?... a curb? Maybe a flat or figuro? Whatcha think? What style of chain would look good with that, and is popular in your area?

Good gosh! That is a monster of a pendant!

You know yourself nobody ever found that chain unless they were REALLY lucky! The signal would have been so crappy if they even got a coil over it at all! Holy crap, if it was a curb, its a dang big one! Piss in my hat, that pendant is a find!:drool:

Naw...on another thought, it had to have been on a Mariner or similar style chain that would look good with that pendant...Must have broke at the clasp to lose such a heavy thing..definitely a Mans pendant, so that means heavy links...Still, gonna be a tough find though, but if anybody can do it, you can! You have studied your whole life for such an event! C'mon! We are pulling for you!:clapping: Knowing you a bit from your capability, I bet you will get in there and work the prevailing up current rip areas tomorrow....

I was watching the groundhog show live this morning and that pesky little rodent saw his shadow meaning 6 more weeks of winter lie ahead.however now that I see cupajo back in the water im beginning to think spring has to closer than 6 weeks lol.all lakes and ground in my area are frozen solid as im sure many others are in the same boat.congrats on the great finds cupajo..
 
Easy there Mud!!

Today I took a break from digging among those small boulders and spent 2 hours water hunting where I found this nice 27.7 Gram, 10K, university ring water hunting 1 December last year.

The best thing I found today was a 1936 Buffalo Nickle in good shape.

I'll get back there soon.
