3 Hour Hunt Today. Had to try and get a quick Silver Fix before the Ground Freeze's Up. :detecting:

Went back to one of my Old Spots that was a Fairgrounds at one time. Figured that there should be something left and I was right. Didn't take but 5 Minutes for me to find my 1st Wheatie today. It was in a spot that I have pounded to death but apparently, I missed a few due to the Iron Content. 2nd Old Coin found was a shocker. I didn't think I would find another one of these here but I guess I was wrong. Thought I was digging an Indian Head but was given a nice 1881-H Canadian Fishcale (Canada's Half-Dime or Nickel). The only other one like this was dated 1874-H. At first, I thought it was 1901 but looked again before I put it in my pouch. That Coin alone got me warmed up and ready to find more. It was pretty nice out for awhile until the Canadian Air rolled in with a Cold Breeze that must have dropped the Temperature a good 10 Degrees within Seconds. After that, I found 1 or 2 more things but it was time to pack it up and call it quits until next Spring. I didn't bring back the usual Load this time but again, I only hunted for about 3 Hours, and at a site that I have almost pounded to death for Old Coins. Here is what I found on this short and possibly the Last Hunt of the Year for me. I only retrieved 2 Silver but it don't matter. The Canadian Silver was good enough for me! The Silver's were 1 Canadian Fishcale dated 1881-H and 1 Mercury Dime dated 1928. For Wheat Pennies, I found 10 of them. They are dated 1916,1917-d,1919-d,1929,1930-d,1938,1947-d,1948-d,1949-d, and 1954-d. I also found a few Misc. Items as well. They included a Cub Scout Badge, a Copper Ring, an Aluminum Tag with Ross Engraved on it, a Really Old Pendant with a Deep Purple Stone (maybe it could be an Old Watch Fob), and an Old Tractor Pin that reads "Hart-Parr" on the Front and on the Back it reads "Headquarters, Charles City, Iowa / Branches, Portage La Prairie, Man. / Saskatoon, Sask. / Calgary, Alberta. The Pin and the Pendant/Watch Fob were 2 great bonus's I thought for some end of the year finds. Thanks for looking and enjoy the pic's. Good Luck and HH to you all. Silver Total = 323.[attachment 74025 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 74035 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 74026 DirtyWheatPennies.jpg][attachment 74047 CleanedWheatPennies.jpg][attachment 74024 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 74039 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Thought this might help out a bit on some of the details on the pieces. The Pendant/Watch Fob has what appears to be an Owl's Head or some other Bird on the Top holding the Stone in and there is Feathers along the Sides. Interesting Piece! Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH.[attachment 74050 PinAndPendantFront.jpg][attachment 74051 PinAndPendantBack.jpg]

How about that! I've detected in Charles City Iowa many times! Good collector value on that fob....

before the ground froze on us. It was nasty and rained here all weekend so I'm glad I hunted in the snow Thanksgiving night. At least I got one last hunt in and found silver...so if that's it until next year that's okay..but I'm hoping I can squeeze in an hour or two sometime before long.

Good to hear that someone out there has done some detecting in that area. I wonder how Old the Fob is? Thanks for the reply Knipper and Good Luck and HH on your next outing.:detecting:

In the areas you already pounded with your little coils, try using a big coil, 12 inches or better, (yes in the iron, a too big coil) and you'll find a couple more keepers. It's called the wrap around technique, if there was a Silver quarter at 8 inches and a nail at two, a small coil may pick up to much nail and not enough silver to sound off, and you can walk right over it. A larger coil may pick up enough of the silver to let you know it's there. As well as, the larger coil picks up further out from its outside edges which sometimes the large iron is at 6 inches and the small silver at 4 inches and you'll get a signal on an angle, only with a large coil. Tried this for myself in an old fair ground I thought I had hammered to death. I found two seated halves, Barb quarter and a seated dime. Now, I could have missed the quarter and dime but the halves, I was not expecting whatsoever.

I've got the WOT and use it in very trashy areas. And I've found alot more with it than with the small coils. I agree that it seems the bigger coils can see under trash much better than the smaller.

I would also be curious if James tried manual sensitivity to the point of instability in some of his hunted out areas. I bet he would pick of few more out, especially in the real trashy areas.

A great post.and I envy you !!!!...not begrudge..envy !

For all others to see what has rested dormant for so many years. Why leave History in the ground when it speaks in more Volumes than one can imagine when dug up and resurfaced since the day it was lost so the New Generations can see Beauty from the Past and relive those days through the Items found. That's why I love this Hobby and all the great finds I make and all you others make and post here on this wonderful Forum. Funny thing about this is that I hated History in High School and now look at me, I just can't get enough of it! Thanks for the reply Elton and Everyone out there, Keep them great pic's of your finds comin'. Winter has just hit my area with some Force and it looks like it's up to you guys to keep the show on the road. Good Luck and HH to you all and hope to see some nice Old Finds.:yo:

I just haven't taken the time or effort in fully testing or trying this Coil out yet. Sad thing is that I have had this Coil for about 2 years or better and still haven't done much of anything with it. But I have been thinking about bringing it out next season and seeing if it can snag me a few Ultra Deep Silver like you have mentioned. What I wouldn't do to find a Seated Half! That's one of the Coins that's on my list and I hope to find one next season. Thanks again for the Tip and Good Luck and HH to you.

falsing off of Iron which leads to more dug holes that only give me the reward of Iron. But I have seen Manual get things a bit better when the Target is Deep. I am going to try Manual Sensitivity a bit more next season along with the Sunray X-12 Coil and see if I can't bring a little magic to life with this Combo from some of my Worked To Death Sites. Until then, it's Research Time and I have plenty of it to do. Thanks for the post Chris and hope to hook up with you next season again. Good Luck and HH.

That is cool that you made it out and found more goodies.Hope you can get out more. That dime is old.Great finds James.

I was hoping to get out again but that is highly unlikely now. The dreaded Four Letter Word has just hit my neck of the woods. SNOW!!! Just saves me things to dig up next season though. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH on your next outing. :detecting:
