I have been hunting near a 500 year old castle and have been pulling coins pre 1900. The Nice big silver hammered is a 1678 Brandenburg Ansbach 1/6 Thaler. My oldest coin by just over a hundred years! It is worth around 75 Euro, my best find yet. It looks like new, but I destroyed any patina it had. I won't do that next time. I also found two Kreuzers, which are also silver & one of which has a small whole for safe keeping in the middle. How many times have we seen that? Silver coins are rare for me. The hammered is my first. Most coins were 3"-5" and the hammered was around 6"-7" and rang pretty good. I dug the minni's anywhere from 1" to 5" and they rang at 60 ish.
Anyway, The omega w/ 11"DD was running fully open, discrim usually at 1 and as high as 16. The GB was around 60. I used mode d2 and checked all targets in d4. The coins almost always had a nice clear ring in d4, where as trash would usually break up. The coins are actually in good shape, bu pretty plane and covered in green from the copper content. The area has quite a few metal detectorists I'm told. It is full of iron, really bad for the most part. Half of my targets were in or around iron I'd say. But I mostly got 4 way signals.
I also found that ring and it fits my ring finger perfectly. It looks like it's a few hundred years old. The little thing to the right of it has a part of a chain attached. Seems like its some kind of old button. And below that is a button. There's a crushed ring in the bottom left corner and above that is some kind of old pin with a plain face. In the upper right corner is a Coin issued from the government during the depression to get food, had a value of 20 Marks.
Overall the Omega performed really well and it's tricking me less with iron these days. Still the T2 was better in that regard but the Omega is better for coins so I'll take it. The ground was really wet, had just rained when the Omega was going nuts in the iron. But it was still performing, just tricking me a bit more than usual.
