32 degrees and silver out

kickback

New member
It warmed up to a balmy 32 degrees. The sun was bright enough to soften the frozen crust of dirt so I could go detect.I hunted the parking area of an old rodeo grounds.I found 23 coins in 1 hour and 20 minutes.I found 2 silver Roosevelt dimes,1962-D and a 1964-D,2 wheaties 1945-D and a 1957-D.5 clad quarters,4 clad dimes and 3 copper pennies. The rodeo grounds has been hunted real hard by other detectorists in the past. The parking area doesn't seem to have been hunted much. The silver was 1 to 2 inches deep, the wheaties were 3 to 4 inches deep. The ground is almost a solid carpet of beavertail style pulltabs. The first silver dime gave a belltone and low tone depending on the sweep direction. It had a beavertail pulltab right on top of it.It's 20 degrees outside right now.If it warms up tomorrow I'll go back for a possible silver fix before it freezes solid. The deer were out every where. The bucks are chasing does right now.I saw 7 bucks while detecting.Love the scenery.Bill

Garretts Pro pinpointer saved my freezing hands. It cuts down my time finding the coin after I dug it.I have research a real old rodeo grounds. Now it's just a field.I'll try to line up permission for spring.

I researched an old horse track that was ran from the 1860's to about 1890. It's a hay field now. But from Google earth I can still see 1/2 the track. I even have hand drawn maps of the place. But I got turned down by the owner. I hope you have better luck than me. Go for it..

Sounds like a dandy day. Silver always brightens one's day. I miss seeing all the critters. When I lived in Northern Idaho in a town of 800 souls elk used to come into town and walk down the main street. Whenever we went fishing at the edge of town we were constantly surrouned by white tails and an elk or two and spotting a bear or two was not uncommon. Game birds of all kinds were everywhere.

Bill.

P.S love to see some pic"s

... and it paid off. Ive been searching for an area that was the parking lot to an old bar that burned down 40 years ago. SO far its just a field - I havent hit the spot yet.
