Found in field where there old house sites and civil war activity. Diameter is 2.67". The inner circle is threaded.

Perhaps from a fancy Oil Lamp. The chimney could have sat inside the raised ring and the 3 armed wire shade support indexed and rested on the outside of the ring. Whatever it actually is, it is defiantly a nice older find.

In looking at that piece more,
To me it seems like it could fit into something like a piece of wood with the three tabs facing the hole which would prevent it from spinning when something is screwed into the threaded hole.
Still have no idea what it’s purpose was.
 
I would guess part of horse drawn planting equipment that can be disengaged to prevent it from dropping seeds or preventing a sickle bar from cutting while moving to and from planting.
 
Being made of Cast Brass I think it would be strictly ornamental. Every seed plate I have ever seen is Cast Iron.
 
I wasn't talking about a seed plate, I was talking about a clutch to disconnect the seed plate or sickle bar from the wheels that drive it. I thought it looked to be cast iron.
