5" coil and low sen settings.

Well-known member
I have been using the 5" coil and going back over some of the more trashy spots I hunt and also have been playing around with sen settings for checking the 5" coils footprint. I am finding at about 40-45 sen that the 5" coil has pretty much an exact 5" footprint and at sen of 50, 60, and 70 it see's close to an inch more at these higher sen settings. This is in the BP mode and 0 disc and with a sen of 40 I am digging cents and dimes down to 7" and maybe a bit more. At 6 -7" the tones are faint, but good enough for my old ears to hear easily. At 40 sen emi is no longer a problem on a couple of spots where I've been hampered in the past. Anyway, thought I would pass this along and see what some of your experiences have been, as well. I tend to always jack up the sensitivity to the 90's no matter what coil I have on there to make sure I get top depth.....but that probably makes it more difficult to isolate targets. Still don't have much time on the small coils yet but will try some lower sensitivity experimentation next time ......

What bearing does the Thresh setting have? I've been running at -3 because everytime I try to go positive, I get chatter, I've been running low sens too with the 11"dd like 60 for my best results.
Being new to this, I figure theres a proper adjustment for every type of terrain/situation that gives the max depth, its just difficult trying to figure it all out on the fly. Thanks to this forum for any hope I have!

Bill, I'm like you. Ever since I got the regular F 75 some years ago now, I almost always ran sen 85 and higher and do the same with the LTD, regardless of what coil I have on. I got to seriously thinking about the footprint of these coils after swinging my Omega with the 10" concentric on one afternoon and was getting hits six or seven inches out with that particular coil on and a sen setting of 99. I first began playing with sen with it and of late with the F 75 LTD and 5" coil. Although not a total revelation, I was, though, somewhat surprised at the 5" footprint with the 40 sen setting and still getting nice depth. HH jim tn

On my T2 standard mode, (same depth as a F75 in DE mode), I have mineralization of .3 (heavy) I set the sens at 65-70, disc of 2, tones 4. I get 6" on a clad dime, 7" produces a junky signal, but doing a 360 degree circle around the coin, I can get a one way high tone chirp. But very iffy overall.
