5 inch coil in a field

So there's a field that me and some friends and others have been hitting for years and each time there's usually something to be found. The problem is that it's a stubble field so swinging can be tough at times. I have the NEL tornado coil for depth but doubt that it will help much because of the size. I'm thinking this might be a perfect opportunity to use the 5 inch coil because I think mostly everyone has only used stock coils there mainly because they don't want the loss of depth. How successful have you guys been using the small coil in places like that? And I'm sure it can still get pretty decent depth?

Not sure what kind F machine you are running, but with 5" coil your field is a lot bigger. With the 5" you should be able to keep changing the coil angle and work in under the stubble and long as you have enough room to keep the coil moving.

We have found that in areas that seem to be worked out any kind of change will bring in some goodies that others miss.

That is what I am running also, you can even run your other coils with a little bit of an angle to the ground and it will give you a little bit of an angle shot when you are in a low spot next to that high stubble. Just a little way to make your detector look at things under the ground.

Unless the field is very trashy, in my humble opinion, I believe you would do better with the stock 11" or the 10" 5 x 10 DD and run in bp mode. The bp mode really works well being swung some inches above the ground and gets wonderful depth. While one can get the 5" coil into and under tight spots, for field hunting one simply cannot cover much ground and the coil isn't as deep as the larger coils. Its strength is its laser like ability in heavy trash. I have the 5 x 10 DD and for woods hunting that is my coil of choice as its shape allows me to get into tight spots with it. And should work well in stubble, I would think. HH jim tn

I just relic hunt but after ive worked a field or woods with the 11" coil until relics are scarce. I always switch to the 5" coil to get around the clods of grass in fields,creeks beds and around trees. Any area the 11" cant get to. Just yesterday i started on an area ive hunted for a year(with 11" coil) witj the 5" coil and found a handful of minie balls and a nice allegheney arsenal spur and found all the bullets around clods of grass and found the spur in between two trees about 6 inches apart and it was only about 5" deep. So in my experience the 5" coil can find items the 11" cant around clods of grass and such. Good luck

I used the 5" round coil exclusively for 1.5 years......Just Loved it
Now after another year I am finding the 5 x 10 gets a bit better depth and I am starting to love it too and finding more silver.
So try the 5" for a while. You will love the light swing you get when using it.
it is the coil you can swing all day without fatigue.

This coil is hard to be in many hard to hunt places!
A lot of folks call it the little "Football Coil" and with your boost mode you should get decent depth. Also with the football coil being concentric it handles the small iron better than the DD's.
