6 Hour field test of the new 6 x 8 SEF Coil. Is it any good??....

Sorry about the lack of "before" and "after" pics of the coins....but you'll have to settle for "before"...'cause I don't have time to clean 'em if I want to keep my job.:detecting:

When I field test a coil I don't take it to a new site...I take it to sites that I have pounded into submission with my 3 favorite coils. There is simply no other way to give an accurate and unbiased assesment as to how the coil performs. How do I arrive at a final verdict or grade after testing a coil?...simple....if a few other coins end up in my pouch that I missed with the other 3 coils....it's a winner.

In this case I took the 6 x 8 SEF coil to 3 different parks that I have hit with my arsenal of coils. First the pro coil...secondly the 10 x 12 SEF coil...and then one more pounding with the 6" Excelerator.

To be completely honest...I was a little stunned at the coins that popped out of these 3 parks over 6 hours time...and all in extremely heavy trash.

It might not look like much to you fellers'...but this coil sniffed out 4 silver....7 wheaties...and 3 Injuns'....from sites I assure you I have thoroughly blitzed. It's a KEEPER for me.

Don't get me wrong...I worked very hard for these in some dense trash at all 3 parks....but this coil worked just as hard. It cut through the trash like a laser...and many of these coins were as deep as 8"...with one closer to 9". Over 50% of the coins had trash directly in the hole...and the other half had trash within 1" of the hole.

The tone ID was dead on at all depths...and the smartscreen ID was also just as accurate.

I was able to run the sensitivity at whatever I wanted...but I ended up with it at semi auto 32...which is funny...'cause that's exactly where I ended up running the 6" Excelerator at. Yes it could have been run at 28 to 30 manual...but at semi auto 32...the target ID was crisp...the coil hit hard and clear...and with the settings I run; it cut the falsing to a minimum.

It also handled the nasty EMI at one park better than any other coil I have.

It really reminds me of the 6" Excelerator the way it hits...and locks on deep coins in the trash...but I truly feel it separates better....MUCH better.
In fact I feel that's why this coil is so effective. A few coils go very deep...and I use 'em. It doesn't matter how deep a coil goes though unless it can "SEE" the coins at the depths they're at. This coil does just that for me.

I was able to pull an injun'... 3 wheaties...and 1 merc from a 10' x 20' spot that I absolutely crept through with the 6" Excelerator coil on multiple occasions....which completely amazed me. The only explanation I can come up with is that the 6 x 8 separated in a more efficient way...thus allowing me to sniff 'em out.

To be completely honest...and that's all I know how to be...the depths these coins were found at were the same great depths the 6" provides. For some reason though....these coins were still hiding in the dense garbage....hence my thoughts of advanced separation qualities.

It also handled the iron patches very well for me and was able to suck a roosey and 2 wheats right through long nulls.
The roosey was sitting on top of an old rusty bolt...and also had an old style tab in the hole with it.

Another killer coil to add to the arsenal.

One thing I noticed was that it can really make a rusty nail sound and ID like a good target close to iron. This may be a result of the great separation. Very short wiggles in just the right place over a rusty nail will give a real nice tone and ID it the top right without too much bounce. With my pro coil I can typically tell a nail from a nail with a coin close. I might be digging more nails until I figure this out.

I to ended up running mine at 32 auto. on my SE but, if it was a reasonable clean area then 28 manual worked for me too. It also worked Excellent on my Safari. On my Safari I could run it at max Sen of 20 but I ran it at auto in the trash and iron and it just wiggled right thru the trash and iron on both of my machines. I am glad you saw how fast it separated in the trash and iron. I am letting my 6" take more naps now. Oh it worked great on my Salt/Fresh water beach down here also 8 to 10"s good dig able ID and tone on my targets to. Now I can put my 4X7" Excellerator up and it can take a nap with my 6" excellerator. Since it separates so good it will give you a quick fast high tone chirp but it is good enough to make you go back and check it out and do the 90* turn and you will be right there. Later Bud. HH Glad you liked it. Great Post BTW. Well I am back to Lurking and hunting. :D: :D: Jerry aka Tinfoil

Thanks Tin. Now get back to lurking before you miss something:bouncy: The more lurking we do...the more we learn:thumbup:
Take care buddy

That's the exact reason I run my iron mask where I do and also why I run semi auto sensitivity. It really helps me differentiate between iron mimicing deep coin hits. It does take a little more work though...because smaller hot coils always give a little trouble over iron hits than stock coils do. The iron mask is the key for me though. I have just trained my ears and don't vary from my iron mask setting at all. It is not fool proof...but it sure does a good job for me.

Good report Bryce, I tryed my SEF 6x8 out Wed. and liked the way it performed. Depth was good and separation was great. Looks like a winner! HH

It is too bad we can not MD and make a good living at it Bryce. Wouldn't that be the life? Congrats on the finds with that new coil, looks like a keeper to me......

It got very nice depth for me too...but so does the 6" Excelerator. The key for me liking this coil was the separation it got...along with the nice depth.
Sometimes I just like to take on the challenge of standing still in a trash patch...and seeing if I can sniff out a goodie or two. This is a great coil for me in those nasty spots.

if you dug anything out of that trash pile then that is a good coil. Was it the park where the lady asked us if we needed some money?:lmfao:

That is all I do now is metal detect. I am 47....

Join the Army and retire and you can do it too.....

AWESOME post Bryce!!!!!!
Exactly what i have been looking for someone to do!! The proof is there!!!!! Great finds, and i hope there are many more to come!!!!!!

I never thought a small coil could top my 6" excelerator....and I've only got 6 hours on this 6 x 8...but it just might be the one.

Thanks DoubleD. After only 6 hours...I think it just might cause my 6" coil to collect a little dust. Time will tell....but the first 6 hours on it were pretty nice. It's definately got a place now in my arsenal.
