6 Hour field test of the new 6 x 8 SEF Coil. Is it any good??....

Sounds like a great coil! If you make it to St. Louis soon, let me know.... I know some of the trashiest, hardest hunted spots in the nation here that still have old coins waiting to be dug.... I'd like to see how it does there. take care, Mike.

Bryce, Congrats on the silver and the IHs.I am Glad that the new coil is working out for you I hope to hunt this weekend and try mine out. Have a Good one and Good luck on your next hunt !!!!!

Bryce, If you plan a trip there to St. Louis, let me know. If my schedule allows, I will be there too. The thrill of the 1788 Reale I found last month is wearing off. I am in need a another fix:crazy:

if it ends up being as good over time as the initial 6 hours indicated...I will be thrilled.
There's no way I would have thought any coil would have had near the combo of depth/separation as the 6" Excelerator....but this 6 x 8 just might top it. Time will tell....and I enjoy "putzing" through the iron/trash spots ...so it should be fun.
I'll slip you a pm if I get to head your way some time. I like to try once or twice a year. Take care

Hey Bryce. I'm not always posting but I am always lurking :ninja:

Bryce thanks for the review, im thinking about picking one up. Could you compare the weight and balance to the other small explorer coils? Does it weigh less than the sunray x-8?

thanks, Ian

Ian...after a pretty thorough 6 hours of "trash sifting"...I was very pleased with the results. That doesn't mean I'm ready to park my 6" Excelerator just yet...but the 6 x 8 definately opened my eyes. I plan on putting some more hours on it as soon as I get time....to see if it will pop out a few more coins I missed in the trash at my other sites.

My initial opinion of this coil though is....it is hot and separates like crazy.

I sure as heck wouldn't be wasting my valuable time with a coil on my machine that didn't find me stuff....and this one did....at least in this 6 hour voyage.

As for the weight and balance...to be honest...I can't give you an accurate weight comparison. Any small coil seems light to me...and I would think they would be pretty close anyway.

I will say though that it felt very well balanced and was smooth on the ground coverage though.

As for comparing it to other 8" coils...I can't help much there because I don't use one. I hunt with the pro coil...the 10 x 12 SEF coil...and then drop right down to the 6" Exelerator coil.

I guess after all my babbling...I really haven't been much help:detecting:

Well I think it must be a pretty good coil. I still haven't gor a small coil yet and am deciding on either the 6" or this one. I have been waiting to see what everyone thought about it. Nice finds you made too. Have a good one...Kennon.

Hi Bryce,

I appreciate your take on that. Thanks for takin the time and sending out you info. Good luck to you and that crazy ty died shirt!

you're more than welcome. I also figured I'd switch up the Tie Dye shirt for a spell. Here's my favorite Harley shirt #2:biggrin:...in the avatar.

Me thinks so too G.R.:drinking: Time will tell...but the initial 6 hours was an eye opener.
Take care buddy...and keep the finds comin'.

Just reading your field test makes me want to run out and purchase one of these coils since I have tons of sites that have lots of garbage and iron in them where I have pulled many keepers from in the past. It must work well if you found that many keepers in your pounded spots and now makes me wonder how well it would work up here in some of mine. Terrific post Bryce! We will forgive you this time for lack of the after picture and how your finds would have cleaned up...but only this time. LOL! Congrats to another successful hunt and Continues Success and HH to you on your next hunt.
