7"+ Clad Quarters

Yesterday 2 out of the 3 quarters that I dug were over 7" deep. I would like to know has this happened to anyone else? I thought for sure they would be silver at that depth. I was in the hole deeper then the blade guard on my Lesche and about 1/3rd of the way up the handle. I now know the my DFX will go that deep. That is the great part.
 
Have you ever noticed the ground cracking during high heat days. Some of these cracks go very deep and anything could fall into these. It's even weirder when you find many silver and wheat cents at two inch depth and clad coins deeper. A common problem to be aware of.
 
For whatever reason they get that deep, it does happen. At least you know you are getting the depth. Now all you have to do is hunt where there is silver targets and get your coil over them.......:biggrin:

Yes, We get the cracking in the ground over here also. I notice that the black dirt will crack open wider then the clay that's here in the area. The spot I found the quarters was in the black dirt. :detecting:

It happens and it's frustrating at times, but as usual, we have to dig them in case it could be silver, or a large cent. Oh yeah! :wiggle: Glad you're getting some practice in with your machine Robbie! HH, Nancy

Thanks Nancy!!! The one thing that I haved learned is you have to go slow. Metal detecting is not the same as it was in the early 80's. Like the old saying goes, Practice makes perfect. I only go 95% and leave the other 5% for improvement. :detecting:
