Hey there fellow detectorist's! Here is finds I got from the 7th, 8th and 9th of this month that I haven't posted yet. Been busy on this end with some B.S. and work. So let's get this started. More posts will be up soon from last weekend's outing and 2 short outings at some Road Construction also. Enjoy!
Friday, I decided to give some Road Construction a shot to see if I couldn't nab a few Silver and to see if anyone had yet worked the area. It appeared that Tim had already beaten me to the area but it didn't matter, you never get it all no matter what. I started working one side of the road and started to find a few Wheats right away so I knew that it couldn't have been hit too hard. I kept working it and only was able to detect one side of the road which took me a good hour and a half to do but did find a few goodies. I got a 29-s Merc, a Silver Roosevelt Dime, and a few Wheats for my efforts. I also found a nice Sterling Silver Ring, a Button, a Grimland Play Coin, a GM Key and a Small Brass Pipe.
Saturday, Tim and I hooked up once again for an outing but decided on the way to a spot that we would detect both Saturday and Sunday and come back home Sunday Night. We didn't have anything packed up for a 2 day outing so we roughed it. We hit a few different locations including Parks, Ball Fields that were used very little and a few other spots. The first site was a Park that turned out to have some nice Old Stuff left in it but the Silver was very very few. I got lucky and nabbed a Barber Dime from here and also got 6 or 7 Injuns along with a V-Nickel. Tim found 2 V-s and a few Wheats and Injuns as well. We decided to leave after awhile and try and save it for next month when we need to find an Indian Head and V-Nickel. Both Tim's Nickels were in the 1880's so the Park was pretty Old.
We then did a bunch of jumping around and a lot of stops didn't produce a thing for us. We found a few more Keepers on Saturday at the last stop which was another Park. We hunted this for a bit until around 11:30pm and finally turned in for the night. We both found a few Wheats and I got a Silver Roosevelt Dime. This town we were in was suppose to have a Campground since the Atlas showed it but there wasn't one when we looked for it and asked around. We didn't know what to do for a place to stay so we decided to just rough it in the Park for the night and sleep in the big ole Stone Gazebo that was there. It got chilly that night and Tim woke up with a sore back. Tim asked how I slept and I told him good.....I slept like a ROCK!
Tim got a good chuckle with that one and so did I. One reason we didn't leave to another town which had a Campground was Tim loosing his Lesche somewhere in the Park. It fell out of his Pouch and didn't realize it. He thought it fell out maybe when he crossed a Fence with a Cable through it but wasn't sure. Well....when morning came around and it got light enough, we found it a little further away than he had thought he had crossed.....laying right next to the Cable Fence.
Sunday Morning, while waiting for the daylight to come around, we hunted the Park a bit more. We both found a few more Wheats and the first Coins of the day for both of us were Mercury Dimes. I found mine soon after I started hunting and Tim found his a few minutes later. We hunted it for awhile and then decided to head out and hit some neighboring towns.
We started to hit some of these and they all were turning out to be pretty dead for targets. We worked a Fairgrounds for a bit but it was all messed up and I was lucky enough to pull one Wheatie from there. We hit the other towns and towards the end of the day, we found a nice Old Railroad Park with a Gazebo in it. Tim got Super Lucky in this Park and if I would have listened to my instincts and detected over by the Gazebo like I thought I should have, I would have had some Great Finds but Tim got them this time. I did walk away with a Merc, the Super Nice 07-d Barber Quarter, and a bunch of Wheats along with an Indian Head. Tim ended up finding a Barber Dime over by the Gazebo and I really thought he just got lucky and this is when I thought about doing the other side of it but went the other direction and found the Barber Quarter. Tim started to work the area and I noticed this. I didn't know what he was finding and he didn't either. He later told me that I wouldn't believe what he found over by the Gazebo........and I almost started to
. He started telling me that he found another Dime and seen the back and thought Barber. He then found 2 more Dimes with only the backs showing so he was doing great with the Barber Dimes. He then popped out an 1875 Canadian Quarter. He didn't think much of it but it made for a good Foreign Coin. He then found another Barber Dime and another Quarter. He told me that he had thought the Eagle looked odd but didn't think much of it at the time since he thought it was a Barber. Well......he decided to go see what the dates were on the Dimes and to see what the year was on the supposed Barber Quarter. He took the Coins out and rinsed them off in his cooler in the trunk. What happened next totally shocked him!!!
He rinsed off one of the Dimes and flipped it over and it wasn't Barber........but Seated!!!
He then rinsed off another Dime and another Seated!!! Rinsed another off and yet one more Seated!!!!!!!
The other 2 Dimes were Barbers and he knew about the Canadian Quarter so let's see what the Barber Quarters date is. Rinsed it off and you probably guessed it.....SEATED!!!!!! 3 Seated Dimes, a Seated Quarter, a Canadian Quarter, and 2 Barber Dimes in a matter of about 15 minutes!
How many have done that before??? Not me and Tim had never found multiple Seated's like that ever! Talk about a person's heart speeding up! Now here's another weird thing with the Dimes. All the Dimes were dated 1877........a Plain...........an S Mint Mark..........and a CC Mint Mark. Tim just found all the Mint Marks for that Dime for that year! Now how 
is that??? The Quarter was an 1875 in nice shape also and the Canadian Quarter was a High Grade as well. Tim figured that the Depot must have sat next to this spot of the Park for this to happen and the bad thing was there was more of the Park before but recently the Elevator had just added on and put up huge Grain Bins in this section so who knows what was buried under all that Gravel. It was one heck of a hunt and Tim pretty much slaughtered me with the Seated's. I'm just glad I was there to see if for myself and glad to see that someone I knew got them. He could have left me one Seated though!
We then a few more spots before we headed back and got a few more finds but this will be a trip that won't be forgotten due to the Seated Coins found. Congrats Tim. Next time.....leave me one alright!
Here is the totals. I picked up another 12 Silver for the weekend. They are 1 Barber Quarter dated 1907-d, 3 Barber Dimes dated 1903-o,1906,1910, 3 Mercury Dimes dated 1923,1924-s,1929-s, and 5 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946,(2)1946-d,1953-d and 1956. For Nickels, I found 2. They are 1 Liberty V-Nickel dated 1896 and 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1947. Indian Heads consisted of 10 of them and they are dated 1882,1893,1897,1898,1899,1900,1902,1903,1905 and 1907. Did well with the Injuns this time.
I also dug a Good For Token. It is Good For 5c In Trade and the Back is blank which is too bad since it is a different style of Token as far as the 5c goes. Still a nice find though. Wheats consisted of another 47 of them and they are dated (3)10,12,13,17,17-d,18,(2)18-d,(3)19,19-d,19-s,20-s,26,26-d,29,31-d,34,(2)34-d,37-d,38-d,39,(3)40-d,40-s,41,44,45-d,(2)46-d,47-d,48-d,48-s,(2)49-d,50,52-d,55-d,56-d,57-d and 58-d. Misc. Finds included a Toy Payloader, a Sterling Silver Ring, a Championship Ring made from either Lead or some other Metal that is dated 1987 (hard to read), a Junk Ring, part of an Aluminum Kid's Ring of a Monkey's Face, an Old Heavy Brass Pin, a Cuff Link, a GM Key, a Small Brass Pipe, a Grimland 5 Play Coin, an item that looks like a Shield but must be part of a Belt Buckle or some other item (Clasp on back reads Pulsifer and Pat 1922) and the Eagle Button that reads Extra Quality Made In England on the Back. Well, that just about sums up this outing. It was yet another fun filled outing and hope you enjoy this as much as I did posting and finding these items. What a great bunch of finds. If I found that much in 3 days Id probably have a heart attack.Way to go. Good hunting
