A couple of coins you don't see everyday.

Hey guys.

Here a some pictures of a couple of coins I purchased this winter. The Flying Eagle Cent I got in a roll of wheats. The Seated Twenty Cent piece I purchased on "the Bay". It is a CC mint. The chances of finding either on of these coins are pretty slim here in Central Nebraska. Towns with any sort of population didn't start "popping" up until the mid 1880's. So the coins are possible, just not likely, and also being low mint number coins adds another "strike" against me finding them. But......I'll keep looking.

Nice coins Neb...years ago I did find a Flying Eagle in a roll of pennies I got from the bank. I was just picking up change for the bike shop I managed. I gave it to my mother and after she passed I looked for it in her coins she had saved and it was not there, what happened to it I don't know.

Well if he has it I am fine with that for I know he is a gentleman! Ok Neb do you have the silver 8 Reales I gave her too? Because that was not there either. Seriously a lot of coins that were mine that I had collected I left with her when I went out on my own including my blue Whitman penny folder that in fact did contain a 1909 S VDB were empty. If she needed to sell them I am fine with that too. Hey I liked my coins but I loved my Mother and I still miss her still after her passing 21 years ago.

Nice Coins!

man that 20 center is awesome, that is one coin I don't have in my collection. How much did that set you back?

Terry I paid just under $200 for that coin because of the cc mint. I check every once and a while and I don't think I got it too bad. Just seems like every one wants $250 and up for those in that condition.

Sure would be a treat to dig em up though.......cool coins!

I've been told that very few 20 cent coins are found with metal detectors.
I found a 2 Cent last year - I'd really like to find a 3 Cent coin this year.

Here's a good tip --- The 3 Cents coins were mainly minted for the purchase of US Postage Stamps - they cost three cents in that time period.
See if you can find the locations of any 1800's Post Office's in your area - I found two of these sites within ten miles of were I live.
I plan on hunting these locations - as soon as the snows gone !

I also bought a few of the more rare coins a few years ago. I mostly did that because when showing my finds to people or groups a good portion of them would say what is that? to a V nickle, standing liberty, or mercury dime. It made me realize and remember that lots of folks have no idea what the old change looks like so I started getting the really neat old looking coins I could afford to show them examples of the cool vintage artwork and style of the old coinage.
2cent, 3 cent, 1/2dimes, 20 cents, all the neat stuff I could manage with a short budget.

They are fun and even funner when showing off your stuff. I live out west and like Neb out here there are just not that many places here to find these neat examples. One of them has actually gone up in value as a real collectable (lucky)

Good luck,

I took a little bit of my clad and bought this beauty.

Very nice coin Tony! It's neat to be able to turn clad into something that will not be minted again. And the age...man!!! Won't be long and it'll be 200 years old! Thanks for sharing with us.
