Here is a few finds I got on Saturday when I went out. I stopped by a Park that Tim and I have worked and still found a few Keepers. I'm sure there is more for the taking still but it may take some time to locate them. One of the finds was in one of Tim's Plugs which I couldn't believe. It read like a Can and was Deep! I opened the Plug just to remove whatever he had left before but couldn't find it. I figured it had to be a Can but nothing. Every time I put the Probe in the Hole, it sang out. I pulled more dirt out and finally seen something Silver fall back into the hole. I looked down into the hole and seen a Coin I thought. I reached in and pulled it out and found myself holding a Silver Washington Quarter, which was a Good 10"+ Deep. The only thing I can figure out is that Tim thought it was a Super Deep Can like it was reading and gave up on it or there was another Coin in the hole and he didn't rescan the hole. What ever the reason, I scored myself a Silver Quarter.
By the time I left this Park, I had the Silver Quarter, 2 Merc's, a Canadian Large Cent, 2 Indian Heads, and 15 Wheats.
I then stopped by a Fairgrounds that I have pulled lots of Silver from in the past. Tim had told me that a friend of ours, Dan, had stopped there and got a Silver Quarter and 2 Merc's recently but he really had to work for them. I figured he had to have found them out in the Ball Diamond Area so I stopped to see if there were any Plugs visible. I started out detecting and was picking up the Normal Clad, since this Fairgrounds has Old Coins towards the surface, so if you pass up the New Coins, your possibly passing up Keepers. I started to see a few Plugs so I knew I was in the right area. I got over by my Van, along a gravel road that I and Rick(ND) had detected before (somehow we missed this Keeper last time) and got another Shallow Hit and figured another Clad Coin. I dug it and at only about 2" Deep, I seen a Silver Quarter staring back at me dated 1937-d. I was shocked to say the least! I continued detecting and tried another area where I have been finding a few Keepers recently and found 2 Wheats and an Indian Head. I hunted a bit longer and called it a day.
So this was a shorter than normal hunt this last weekend. I am hoping to detect all 3 days coming up this weekend but we will have to see. So now onto what the finds were.
I found only 4 Silver this time around but that's ok with me. I got 2 Washington Quarters dated 1937-d and 1945. I also found 2 Mercury Dimes dated 1944-d and 1945-d. The Canadian Large Cent was found in an area that Tim worked well but was more like a Shallow Target which why it was passed up. I dug it just because it was a curious Signal. It was giving me a 27 on Digital but only showed about 3-4" Deep, so I figured it was either a Screw Cap or possibly a Shallow Wheatie or Newer Penny. Glad I dug it though! It is in bad shape but if I Brass Brush it more it should turn out better and without any Green Crud on it. It is dated 1917. I found 3 Indian Heads this time out and all 3 are not the prettiest Coins but hey, at least I saved them from total annihilation. They are dated 1888,1898, and 1905. For Wheat Pennies, I dug 17 of them. They are dated 17,(2)19,2?-d,34-d,35-s,36,40-d,41-d,42-d,44-d,46,46-d,48-d,51,53-d, and 57-d. That does it for this time and hope everyone gets at least some free time during the Labor Day Weekend to do a little detecting. Good Luck and HH to you all and look forward in seeing some nice finds posted next week.
