Here are a few finds that I made on Thursday Night. A guy I work with lives next to a house that seemed to be vacant and I asked him about it. Ted told me that the City was cutting the grass and that he heard that the guy supposedly skipped town for some reason. Then he told me that his neighbor had already been detecting it so I decided to go try it myself since I didn't know what kind of machine this other person had. I then was talking with another fellow worker and told him I planned on going over to the house next to Ted's. He then told me to go try the one across the street since that one was vacant also. I couldn't believe that there were 2 houses next to each other that were prime for detecting. I decided to start at the 1st house since I didn't know the specifics about the 2nd house. I had the New 11" Coil that comes with the Se Pro (Rick(ND) ordered Tim and I one to try) on and started with that. I got into the yard and noticed a lot of Iron in the ground. I found a few New Coins and 3 Wheats with this New Coil but decided that I best use the Joey Coil so I can get between the Iron. I started detecting again and soon found myself talking with Ted's Neighbor that had already been detecting this 1st yard. His name was Stan and I learned he had a Garrett (found out later that it was the Garrett 500 from Rick(ND)). He asked if I had found anything and I told him I found 3 Wheats already and some New Coins. We talked a bit and I told him that Garrett's were pretty good detectors but I could go behind them with my XS and find the Deep Coins that it misses. I am not sure if he believed that my detector was better than his but he soon found out the next day when Rick(ND) stopped to try the houses out, just how well I did in the 2 yards. He was amazed at what Rick told him. Anyways, Stan finally left for home but before he did, I asked him about the house across the street. He told me that the Bank Re-poed it and that he had only found a Wheat Penny over there. I also asked what he found when he detected and he told me that he found a couple Wheat Pennies, a Silver Dime, a Clad Half, a Liberty Penny(think he was talking about an Indian Head), and the usual Clad Coins. So, I hunted the 1st house for a bit and found 13 Keepers. They were 11 Wheat Pennies, 1 Cinco Centavos Foreign Coin, and a Buffalo Nickel. I also found a Cuff Link, a Dog Name Tag with Benji on it, a Donald Duck Pin, a Chicken Feed Play Coin, and some other Copper Item with a Screw in it.
Then I tried the 2nd House. I started detecting and wasn't finding anything until I crossed the sidewalk at the end. I seen a Plug from Stan and I got a short Signal that read 25 on Digital. I turned 90 Degrees and swept the Coil over that area again. There was something there and it was only about a Foot away from Stan's Plug. I dug it and found a Small Coin in the dirt. I wiped it off and it was a Foreign Coin that read 1 ORE and a date of 1883. I covered the hole and started detecting knowing that Barber could be in the yard. I got next to a tree and seen another Plug of Stan's and got yet another Signal that read 25 on Digital. This also was about a Foot away from his Plug so I dug it and out pops a Penny. An Indian Head dated 1903. I was starting to get a bit excited since the Oldies were here in this yard and Stan missed them with the Garrett. I started detecting again and wasn't finding anything else. I crossed the sidewalk again and started hunting part of the Boulevard. I got a Signal that was jumping a bit, around 4 to 7 on Digital and it was about 3/4ths the way down the Depth Meter. As soon as I seen the Numbers jumping and how Deep it was, it had to be a Nickel. I dug down and about 8" Deep, a Nickel surfaced. It turned out to be an 1888 Liberty V-Nickel. I later found out that this was a better Date and starts out at $26.00 in Good in the Red Book. I continued hunting down the Boulevard and made it down to the end where I found the Foreign Coin at. I was just about to cross the sidewalk again and got that High Tone Signal that I was looking for. I looked at the ID and it was giving me a 28-30 on Digital but it wasn't that Deep. I dug down about 4"-6" and out pops a Silver Dime, facing back up. Barber! I picked it up and turned it over to see what year it was. 1905. I then checked to see if it had a Mint Mark on it and it did. As soon as I seen the Mint Mark, I knew it was a better one due to the Small O. 1905 Micro O which starts out in G-4 at $12.00(some Liberty visible which brings it up to a $25.00 Coin). I then decided to hunt along a sidewalk next to the house and found 2 more Wheats over there. Then I packed her in and headed home. Rick(ND) tried it the next day but only found a few New Coins. He tried his Fisher F-70 and will try the Se Pro next time, since I believe there has to be Coins left due to me not covering the yards that well.
So, here is the tally on this short hunt. I found 1 Silver being the 1905 Micro O Barber Dime, 2 Nickels being a Liberty V-Nickel dated 1888($40.00 Coin) and 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1916, 2 Foreign Coins being 1 Cinco Centavos dated 1963 and the other Foreign Coin being a 1 ORE dated 1883, 1 Indian Head dated 1903, and 13 Wheat Pennies dated 19,19-d,27-d,30-d,37,41-d,(2)44-d,44-s,45-d,52-d, and 57-d. I also through in a Jefferson Nickel I found in Island Park on Tuesday that I found with the New 11" Coil. It is dated 1941. Also, I did not clean up the V-Nickel due to it being a better date. Some Liberty is visible on it. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all during the upcoming work week. Weekend finds will be up tomorrow night. Stay Tuned.
