A Few Good Things About Hunting In The Snow

E-Trac-Ohio

We have about 4 inches of powder snow on the ground right now - if the snow gets much deeper it will be to tough to swing.
A few good things about hunting in the snow (probably the only good things) is that your tracks let you know where you've already hunted and the fact that you are forced to slow down.
I recently made a few good finds at locations that were covered in several inches of snow - I hunted these same places last fall with little or no results.
Anyway ... winter still stinks - but it's not all bad.

I got to give you credit. Your either a die hard coin hunter, or someone with antifreeze for blood. Either way I'm just jealous because our ground is frozen so hard the only way you could cut into it is with a ax. Best of luck out there. Rick "IL"

Rick - I do tree & logging work year round - so I guess I've gotten use to being out in the cold weather. When ever possible I've been doing half hour to one hour hunts at the end of the day.
The open - bare ground is frozen sold here also - it's been around 12 to 15 degrees here at night.
But it's still easy to dig in alot of places where the grass is taller - like on uncut lawns / fields - and in the woods where theres a lot of leaves.

I do admire your tenacity by continuing to hunt in the snow and cold . I deal with it by doing shorter quicker hunts but I must say I get a lot enjoyment out of pulling a coin from the cold and frozen dirt .Those cheap chemical hand and feet warmers work pretty good

Hey Mark, the other good thing is that you have the sites all to yourself!!!
Here's to you!!!

One other idea is if you are hunting a field that is fairly undisturbed and the ground is frozen you can mark your targets till it thaws. Flags or easier marking spray paint.

It is hard to mark a spot for later because you can't sleep at night thinking about what might be there. But I have done it and used golf tees with the tops spray painted with neon spray paint. Thanks for the story Mark and hope 2011 is a good year for you. HH - Randy
