The temps climbed up into the upper 30's today, so I hit the drained lake I have been hammering for the past few weeks. I ended up hunting for 3 hours and the 2-3" thick layer of frozen sand made digging very difficult. I did manage to pick up a couple Sterling Silver rings along with a 1956 Washington Quarter and a 1947 Rosie. A bit more silver and I can pay for a new shovel .
I'm not sure it had anything to do with the partially frozen ground, but my E-trac was not running as smoothly as it had at this location on previous trips. I was lucky to get the sensitivity above 25-26 without it chattering, when before I had been running 27 and above without a problem.
