A few visitors when I got home from work...

Had a few critters stop by the wheat field this afternoon when I got home from work. A lot of hawk and one lonely rabbit trying not to become the main course for dinner tonight for his feathered friends....... Apparently these hawk are migrating. I counted about 60-70 scattered throughout the 1/2 mile section near the road today...there were probably 4 to 5 times that amount yesterday...was too late to shoot when I saw them, was getting too dark. I have never seen anything like it.

Frank, this is interesting, never seen so many Hawks like this before. How far away were the Hawks from you? These are nice pictures. Thanks for sharing. :clapping: Kelley (Texas) :)

the smallest bird (light color, a juvenile) was about 75' away... the others varied 40 to 100yds. I was using my 70-300 vr lens on nikon d7100..
I was able to visit with a local birding expert today from West Texas A&M Univ., who captures hawks and places satellite transmitters on them to follows their migration. He told me these were Swainsons Hawks and were on there way to Argentina from up north toward Canada....
Hope to get a few more shots before they leave.

thanks for the comments....
there were only about 10 birds in the field this afternoon that I saw...here are 2 more....

Frank, thanks for the info on the hawks. Difficult to imagine the hawks flying from Canada to Argentina, amazing. Also, that lens is doing you a great job. Kelley (Texas) :)

Frank, nice pictures. :clapping: In the first picture, it looks like the hawk is looking directly at you. You did good. Kelley(Texas) :)
