I hit a few tot lots yesterday and the E-Trac proves it does just fine on small gold. I think it is a matter of E-Trac users not looking so much for gold rather than an inability to find it. As someone who has hunted a lot of tot lots with a lot of detectors, I know the signs of a good gold detector, and the E-Trac has what it takes. I found a straight pin which tells me the E-Trac will not be missing any gold.
I first found the 10k pendent and thinking the chain could be nearby I focused on the faint signal a gold chain gives. While I didn't find the chain for this pendent I walked a bit further and got the crackle I was listening for. I removed the chips down to the ground(roughly 6") and saw nothing. The crackle was still there so I dug down in the mud and flipped over a chunk and saw a beautiful large gold chain wrapped in the mud. It is marked 417(10K). I realized this was not the chain for the pendent but was happy to take it anyway. I was impressed that this chain had been missed by us many times before, but the E-Trac found it. I was all smiles as I started to walk away when I get another nice signal and kicked the chips to see more gold. A nice 10k bracelet.
