A little silver and a commemorative coin

Dr.Bill

New member
Well the big day had arrived a hunt Tnvarmint and I had looked forward to all week . We got there around 9:30 the weather was beautiful there was a slight breeze and blue sky . We both started pulling targets and the morning went by very fast . At lunch we took a break to compare targets and talk strategies. We got our game plan together and went back to digging . The gentleman that owned the property stopped by and chatted with us for a few minutes . He had told us the house was built in the 1920's by his family and was rented out in the 70's . He was a very kind and friendly gentleman and we thanked him for letting us hunt on his property .

I was a bit surprised that we had not found any silver coins here but we had found lots of clad and a few wheaties . I started making loops through the lower front yard and got a dime reading and flipped the first silver of the day needless to say I was very pleased . I continued walking strips of the yard and got a very strong signal 12 48 bouncing 49 . With a quick flip of the shovel I was looking at a very large copper looking coin . I got Tnvarmint attention and motioned him over and he had a water bottle with a few splashes of water we were looking at a very stately looking gentleman that I didn't recognize. We finally made out the name Cyrus Hall Mc Cormick I got my phone and googled the name. It came back as the inventor of the reaper when I got home I did a little research and it was a commemorative coin made in 1931 . The coin I found was well pocket worn and showed its age but it was still a very good find and made my day .
We came away with toy cars ,toy guns ,clad ,a little silver and interesting medallion .

All in all It was a great day spent with a friend metal detecting .

HH all

The forth picture is what the commemorative coin looked like new - not the one I found .

Nice commemorative coin there Dr.Bill. Looks like you dug enough coins and other targets to keep it interesting. It's funny how a house that you'd think would be great to hunt gives up very little and one that has a postage stamp size yard gives up lots. You just never know until you try. Ken-ks

You a great day Bill - I really like the commemorative piece !
