[attachment 348305 15015190940712.jpg] Been detecting around a old ball field, and have been picking up a few old coins like these 3 Wheaties 1914,1918, 1948 hoping to pick up some silver also and happened to dig this gold cross nice little surprise. I guess I'd rather have gold than silver:crazy:

Nice! Just curious, what VDI # did the cross come in at, and is it 14K?
 
I'm new to this hobby and all I've found is dirty clad coins. Lots of them. This gives me hope!! :) Nice finds!

I went out with a guy who is in our detecting club who consistently finds at least 300 silvers a year. He told me his secret. DIG THE DEEP SIGNALS.
When he started out he was finding only clad coins. So, for the most part, if you want to find very old coins, dig the deep signals.
One caveat, when detecting around an old home, old coins can be shallow.

Yes dig the deep signals, but sometimes you got to dig the shallow stuff to get the deep stuff
