A New 1st For me

Its in real rough shape, but there's enough to ID it as a 1777 Spanish Half Reale. My 1st Reale & my oldest coin.
It was about 4-5" & was reading a 34 in high trash setting with auto Sens.

Sweet that the date was saved. :clapping: Its been raining a lot here in Kansas I've been trying to get out between rain since I'm off sun & mon, have not found anything good. Having a hard time for some reason, finding goodies, don't know if its how wet the ground is or what but don't seem to be getting a good sound. I even switched to the smaller coil to try and get back on track but that didn't seem to help me this morning either. I totally think those of you that use all metal setting are kings & queens of metal detectors, whow I tried it today and just couldn't figure it out at all. I've got mine set at 0-14, 33-39 open, auto sensitivity. Even with just those open I still have troubles some times finding good stuff.

Again grats on that cool find.

Usually the wet ground will give you a bit more depth. You may want to open up 15-16, I have found nickels at 15 & 16 it depends on the ground conditions. Sometimes nickels will read 14 15 or 16, but if I am at a spot & nickels read 15 they read 15 all day long at that spot I can usually tell the nickels by the sound, the Pulltabs have a slightly higher sound than nickels. I go to another location & they may read 14 all day long. I have gotten so I always run All Metal. I don't like the thing nulling out when it sees iron. In All Metal & High Trash Density I can sometimes pick out the good stuff next to the iron. It does take some getting use too & the iron can drive you crazy if you're in a real trashy spot.
