A short hunt worth a MILLION $$...and some pics that are PRICELESS to me:angel:

Dad knows his life as he knows it will change within a matter of a just a few days.

I decided to put a Minelab in his hands for a while so we could get some cherished hunt time in.

Once he has the surgery in a few days...it will be at least 2 to 3 months before he can even attempt to detect again because of the stress on the abdomen region.

He didn't feel very good...but he did feel like swingin' the coil for a short while.:clapping:

He still doesn't know I have an XLT on the way for him..and it will be a nice surprise...especially after all the gripin' he did about my Minelabs.:bouncy:

My Dad is a straight shooter fellers' and if he likes somethin' he'll tell ya'...and if he don't...he'll tell ya' that too:super:

First words out of his mouth 15 minutes into the hunt when I asked him how he liked my SE w/ Pro coil.... "This thing is too heavy"

Second set of words out of his mouth when he was glancing at the screen and trying to figure out whether he wanted to dig a possible target or not... "This screen is BS...I can't even see it through the glare":lmfao:

30 minutes on my machine and my Dad has found the 2 biggest gripes most everyone else has about the explorers:cheers:

I decided to get a closeup shot of him after he expressed his opinions. As you can see...the look on his face shows exactly how he feels about my Minelabs.:)

We spent a good solid hour looking in the area I have hit at least 100 times since 1985. Why...because I chucked my wedding band out here when I got divorced back then.....and would just like to find it for the heck of it.

Actually..again WHY?...well...so I can throw it FURTHER next time!!:clapping:

Problem is that the area is exactly where my brother and I have shot our guns over the last 20 years or so...and it is a solid carpet of .22...44 mag...45's...and .223 casings...and I mean SOLID.

Over the last few years I have pulled over 400 22 casings out of this 50' x 50' area while looking for the wedding band which I know for a fact is there because I watched it bounce and land.

Today was no different. I found another 14 22 casings...5 pieces of can slaw...3 wads of foil...and NO coins.

My dad...well he found the ONLY coin during the short hunt...a clad dime at about 6" or so...and trust me...he let me hear about it.

His comment... "Looks like you missed one Mr. Field tester" :bouncy:

Some day I will find the wedding band...but today wasn't about that. It was about seeing my dad doing something he got me involved in back in the early 70's.

It was about realizing even further something that I already knew. Never take for granted the things that we enjoy doing...and never even for a split second forget what family means to you.

Because he is weak right now...we only got to hunt for an hour at the most...but it was an hour I will always cherish.

Thanks Pops...it was fun.

Hey Bryce thats a great time detecting if you ask me. Hope he likes the Whites, but im sticking with my Explorer. Thanks for sharing.

Jay

Way to go......you can't beat days like that! Best wishes to you and yours. By the way.....following your report, I bought the X-5 for my Minelab Explorer II. First time out and the 5th hit, I dug up a flattened penny with the Lord's Prayer. How is that for luck since when testing yours, you found a penny with the Lord's Prayer. Mine has a small hole for hanging on a chain tho. By the way, I am a White's man and have been for nearly 21 years. I just got the Explorer II and a XS because I went to an auction and bought 43 Minelab Explorer II's. Most are well used and I have sold about 12 for $250.00 each with UR-30 headphones and the Explorer 1000 coil and AA battery holder. Lot of happy people here in east Tenn. :) Again I wish your family all the best and thanks for sharing a special day.

Nice post Bryce. Hope everything goes well for you and your Dad, and he gets back out with you after is surgery! You'll have to show him some deep coin hits to compare with the new XLT.

Keep your head up!

Brad

Good Old Dad

Hopefully someday youll get that XLT and he will be happier! and find King solomans mine too!

Great post Bryce. It reminds me so much of me and my dad. He is the one that got me into metal detecting over 25 years ago and we still talk about it almost every day. Some of my greatest memories are of our hunts together.

Like your dad, mine has kidney issues and I was fortunate enough to be able to donate a kidney to him several years back. He is doing so much better but does not get out to detect as much as he used to. However, he did buy an new E-trac recently after seeing how good I was doing with mine though:clapping:

I am looking forward to getting up there to see him this summer and teaching him how to use it although by then, he will probably be ready to teach me a thing or two:twodetecting:

Thanks for sharing the pics Bryce. It is good to put a face to someone I have been praying for.

Take care my friend.

Hey, Your dad is better looking than you!!!, Glad you got to spend the time with him. You and your family are slways in my Prayers. Enjoy being with your Dad...Jesse.
