A surprise for me................

I did not know the Omega 8000 ground tracked, and showed you when the GB was off and needs to be reset.. A GOOD FEATURE indeed..

Such a simple to use feature too.... Is the black 10" coil concentric and the black 11" DD ????????????????

I did not get a manual .................. looking now for a download to find one....

PS. How do I verify the version ????? It is said to be a version 6 .

Press and hold down the pinpoint button now press the power button on, a number will show up on the screen. This will be the version your machine is.

Also to answer a question I read on another post here..The 6 version does have both headphone jacks on the left side. Looking at the screen..

I hope it will work for me (Omega) I needed a lighter detector with some decent depth.. I do really like the very large display screen and all it shows about the operation..

I did download a manual and the GB feature is awesome on this detector.

That is a neat feature having both size headphone jacks on the side. Too bad more manufacturer's don't provide that. Yes, the 10" elliptical is concentric while the 11" is DD. It's a great detector at a very reasonable price...

Yes Elton, that 10" elliptical coil is a concentric coil, and the 11" is a DD.
With my version 4 I did not like the 10" Concentric coil at all as compared to the 11" DD. Now something may have been wrong with the one I had I don't know, but the few rusty bottle caps that I encounter isn't enough of a problem for me to drop back to the 10" concentric.
The 5" round coil is a DD.
The 8" round coil is a concentric.
The 5"X 10" solid box coil is a DD. (I'd like to give this coil a try)

Another thing about that ground track feature is once you get a number for a certain area next time back you can use the ground balance touch pad and just manually set the ground balance for that area and then just start hunting, if you see an average high or low then just push the ground balance touch pad to balance it. What's good about that is knowing the ground balance value for a certain area means that on the return trip you don't have to fool around trying to find a clean spot of ground to ground balance it, run up or down the numbers to get to the known value and start hunting.

Nice, another way to know version 6 is if it flashes the serial number when first turning on.

If you liked version 4, you're really going to like version 5 & 6. They run a little quieter. Someone stated that the only difference between version 5 and 6 is that the serial number will come up on the display on version 6. The version 5 that I have seems to be a little deeper even with a low sensitivity setting of '60'.

They did something to make them better, but they ain't saying. Probably better EMI shielding and some tweaking.

I sure fooled you didn't I.......

You mentioned both headphone jacks on the side. They have been converting over to using only the ¼" jack and adding an attached rubber headphone jack plug. Just a running change from what I understand.

Really ...Thanks Monte for the information.. Are there any other differences in the 6 versions. Serial number flashes at start up. etc.

Monte for straight coin shooting..Would you go for The T2 ..or stay with the Omega ??

I usually only hunt Disc mode, rarely even go to all metal mode. Do not hunt relics...

It aint Monte here Elton, but I can share what my approach is to all metal mode. If I am hunting on a beach, I usually use all metal mode. If I am hunting in larger areas (inland) for coins etc, I sometimes use all metal mode to instantly identify the larger targets, such as squashed alum. cans. It has the added benefit of going a tad deeper than disc mode. I would suggest that if you try all metal mode, and use it regularly so that you are used to it, your silver count will rise. I dont just use all metal on my Omega, but other machines as well such as my Gold Bug Pro and some of my Tesoros. HH

I don't believe so.

I use the All Metal mode based upon site conditions and what I am after, but the bulk of the time I hunt in a motion-based Discriminate mode. I use very little Discrimination. With the MX5, MXT Pro, FORS CoRe and Racer, I like to hunt in a 2-Tone audio when it is "general hunting" or "open area hunting" which would be the d2 Tone ID option on the Omega. For trashier "urban coin hunting" I use 1 or 2 Tone on the MX5, MXT Pro, and the 3-Tine on the FORS and Racer. With the Omega I prefer the d4 Tone ID the most. I do not like most multi-tone options, if more than 3 or 4, so I never use the 7-Tone of the MXT Pro or 8-Tone of the MX5.

Honestly, it is much the same as Relic Hunting because you need to match the search coil size and type with the detector settings and mode function for the environment. I have been asked why I can have better success when Coin Hunting with friends when I can match or better their end results (coin tally) when hunting the same sites together and my mobility is very limited to theirs. Thee answer? Because I enjoy Relic Hunting.

I have been out hitting ghost towns and homesteads or other old-use Relic Hunting type locations with others and asked why I seem to have better? The answer? Because I enjoy Coin Hunting.

Some "Relic Hunting" might call for the use of larger size search coils for a little better depth or to locate larger-size targets. Most of the "Relic Hunting" types of sites I work, however, call for the use f a smaller-size search coil to deal with a lot of trash or building rubble or dense brush. It's very much like Coin Hunting around picnic tables or popular hang-outs that get very littered, or the brushy fringes of old parks, etc.

Smaller coils, low Disc. and search coil control for methodical sweeps.

I have owned 2 T2's and wouldn't get another for Coin Hunting. The Omega provided me easier and quicker performance and better TID at mid-depth to deeper targets. Plus it was more versatile as it used both DD and Concentric coils.
