Hi All,
Man I am eagerly awaiting UPS tomorrow as they bring me my first metal detector. I was wondering though, how water resistent are these? I am planning on going to the beach and don't know how close to the water I can go. If they are able to get wet, how deep can they go in the water?

Thanks!
Brian

Don't get the main housing wet. The coil would be okay, just watch any wave action that might get the main housing.

The coil is waterproof...the electronics are not. Don't go too deep and DON"T drop it in the water. :)

Just take your time. Read the manual a couple of times. Set your sensitivity at four bars and leave it there. Start in coins mode until you become familiar with the detector. Pinpointing takes some practice. You can go back through the old posts and find a ton of info on that. Just don't get in a big hurry. Everything will come with time and plenty of practice. Detecting ain't as easy as it sounds. Good luck.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the advice. I got it in the afternoon and set it up ( a snap!). Then I watched the instructional dvd that came with it, played around a little in the grass near my front door then went to the beach. I was playing with in the all metal mode, at the default sensitivity. Found a lot of bottle caps and foil and like 3 pennies. But it was FUN! My wife and I got out together and both had a good time. I can see another one of these in the not too distant future so we both have one.

Thanks again!

Does anyone use those coil covers they show on the video? Are they worth getting? Where to get them from?

Thanks!
Brian

Some people do and some don't. I personally don't use one because I'm not that rough on my detector. You have to keep them cleaned outor they will cause your detector to false. You buy them wherever detectors are sold. Try the sponsors at the top of this forum.
