Adding to a collection

I collect 5 railroads that ran in Arizona's past. This week I added a picture to one - the Tucson Cornelia & Gila Bend Rr line. I saw a slide on ebay and bought it for $4.25 - showing a RR car from the TC line. This line went out of business a long time ago so one cannot get these pics just anytime. For anyone who might not know - all the nails are date nails. The RR line put these in the wooden ties when they laid them. So the 37 is 1937, etc. The Rr used date nails from 1922 to 1970. Some nails on other lines go back to 1900. I got all these nails by walking the line plus looking in fence posts along the way.

The bottom middle paper item is an old original pass. the top center item is a ticket to ride. The top right pic is one of the locomotives they ran. The lock I found along the rail line and is stamped T.C. & G. B. RR. The key in the lock works and it was given to me by a friend - also stamped T.C. & G. B.

So when it arrived I went to WalMart and had the print made - cost 27 cents. So here's the end result for under 5 bucks. I would think the more authentic things one has in a collection the more it's valued. Steve in so az

that's pretty cool, looks really good

Very nice collection, Steve, and if you ever want to sell it or put it up for auction....the history info and artifacts will certianly make it more valuable and interesting for someone to buy it....in the meantime you get to enjoy the fruits of your detecting labor! :clapping: God Bless! Betty

look at it too. It's on display and eventually will go to my son or the market. And having displays encourages one to get back out detecting. Things left in drawers don't do any good, Steve

is there an air force base out there?

it contained a 'cannon' or giant gatling type gun that when it fired its rounds the plane had to actually bank so the shooting side was lower the other side of the aircraft. Awesome destructive power of that weapon. Would make sense to use that range for this aircraft.

Or could have been a friend who was working Law Enforcement and got stationed there. Getting old and forgot. Seems the aircraft I speak of was from some place down Georgia way. Think it was a black C-130 but can't recall the name. Sucks getting old.

Armament: AC-130H: 40mm and 105mm cannons; AC-130U: 40mm and 105mm cannons and 25mm gatling gun. AC-130Us are being retrofitted with 30mm Mk-44 single barrel cannons in place of the 40mm cannon and the 25mm gatling gun.

Now ya done it....(in drawers &/or bags) Bro Steve, ya stepped on me toes and oh dat hurts! Glad you do better than I have on the displays.....I just went after them and stored them away....like a squirrel with their nuts and etc. Congrats on such great finds and dedication in :detecting: and having them out where you and others can see and enjoy....a way of remembering where, when and what has been found! :clapping: :) God Bless! Betty
