After having to go back to the Etrac for a couple of weeks, just curious...

Since my CTX had some bad pixels, I sent in back in for repair. 2 weeks and 4 days later, it returned!! Thanks Minelab for great service!

Anyways, since the CTX was back in for repair, I was using the Etrac for a couple of weeks. I had to re-train myself to the Etrac so to speak. I have dug several silver coins with the Etrac that were less than ideal signals. One for instance was a good signal when I would swing east to west, but nothing swinging west to east. Turned 90 degrees and would only get a squeak going north to south, but nothing going south to north.

Another one was a really nice sounding signal, but like I always do with the Etrac, I opened up quick mask to make sure it wasn't falsing on some deep iron. The TID would go from 35-xx to 12-43, back to 35-xx and back to 12-45, etc...

Do you guys find that true with your CTX? I have been passing on signals that weren't repeatable 2 way and then again at 90 degrees.

Just curious, thanks in advance!!!

It depends on whether the target was sitting there all by itself or if there is an adjacent target that could be mixing up the signals. And that is the beauty of having the various Separation modes and Audio choices with the CTX. I like to hunt in Combined Audio with Ferrous Coin Separation, minimal discrimination, with the FE line down around 21. I basically hear everything that the coil passes over. I let my ears sort out most of the trash. And if I get that slight squeak of high tone, I can work the coil in and around the various targets, hoping to isolate the coin. I've also found the TID (while in PP sizing) helps in this process. So to answer your question, no, I don't pass up targets that only give a one way signal. Not until I've determined why. If it is a solo target, and hits left to right but not top to bottom, it could be a coin on edge. If it hits one place in hunt mode and "moves" a bit in PP sizing, it is likely trash. Honestly, if it is an "iffy" signal that even gives a glimmer of hope that it might be a coin, I'll dig it up. Usually digging it up takes less time than trying to find a reason to not dig it. Randy hit it on the head, one way targets can be a good target and it depends on many factors. If the target pinpoints directly under where it sounds the best, I dig it. If the target seems to "move" when pinpointing, it is almost always rusted wire or a nail. One way deep targets just need a little more time analyzing before digging is all. I also use Combined Audio with Ferrous Coin Separation and I dig very little junk anymore and when I do, I have a pretty good idea it is junk.............. just hoping I'm wrong.
