Air tested my returned Vaquero with 5.75 concentric coil...Holy Moly

So as most of you know I got my Vaquero back last week with both my stock and 5.75 being re-tuned. I haven't been able to do an air test until now. I haven't tried the stock coil yet, but just did one with the 5.75 concentric because thats the one I will be using most of the time and I will tell you that it being re-tuned gives it a huge advantage now.

My settings were Threshold maxed, Sensitivity maxed, and discrimination set to the notch between iron and nickel. So I pretty much had it supertuned. I set the ground balance by doing the 5 turns counter clockwise and 2 turns clockwise. Here are my results

Quarter=13-14"

Penny=12-13"

Dime=11-12"

And I am not kidding you...this was with the 5.75 concentric coil. I don't what they did, but this makes me extremely happy!

If I get a chance soon, I'll try to do one with the Stock Coil..but I'm assuming if you add 1" or 1.5" to each coin, thats what it would be

NASA will be knockin on your door soon....no one is allowed to have a detector with air test readings like that with a 5.75 coil....so be ready...they are comin for it!

I really thought I did something wrong, but I just had it cranked up and thats what it was showing. I mean you gotta give or take an 1" or 2" probably, but still..those are great numbers

I had one similar, Super Tuned, 5.75" coil. (air test, of course)

1c - 12"

5c - 12"

10c - 11"

25c - 12 1/2"

I thought all Vaqueros would get this, got rid of it to try another machine. Big mistake.

The 9x8 coil got about 1 to 2" greater depth, depending on coin.

A lot of people, including myself, haven't really seen these numbers, even with the stock coil. I am now getting them after my coils have been re-tuned and I must say I am impressed

Yep, that's maybe close to what I get with the STOCK coil. Still great depth, but it raises the same old question, why are some Vaqs hotter than others?

:detecting:it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a ground test as well!

Haha I know man, once i get the chance

In my very mild soil (sandy loam type soil) both the 5.75" coil and the 9x8 coil would give a very weak signal on a 10" dime in my coin garden, even though the 9x8 coil would air test a dime at 13".

I haven't air tested my Vaquero in a while but the last time I tested the 5 .75 concentric, it would hit my wedding ring at 10 ".

These numbers may be common to some people, but they weren't to me before getting the coils fixed. These numbers are new to me and I've had the detector for 2 years. I'm just a happy camper now

Remember when you were asking about your detector bobby, and we were talking #'s.I kept saying a quarter should air test close to 12".A quarter is my universal measurement on all detectors.I kept saying how good a air test should be on the vaquero.I am glade you decided to send it in.The vaq will run with any vlf detector made today.Hope you get out soon bobby.We are getting warmer down south now.Yesterday i was sweating in the woods.That is a sign for me to think about stopping relic hunting the woods due to snakes.So we don't have long for a warm up. o_O

Haha, yea I remember your persistence in telling me what the air tests should be :p and I appreciate it much. Im glad I sent it in too. The performance of the coils and detector is now lookin to be a lot better. The real test will be getting out there and hunting, cuz I know a lot of people don't care about the air tests, but in this situation I'm still pretty excited

Detectorist try to play this trick all the time.Saying air test don't mean nothing.Any detectorist knows that a air test means something.If it can't hit it in the air,what's it going to do in the ground?better?Don't let these people tell you this again.I do not believe the one either that a coin has to be in the ground for years to be detected.So i guess the guys detecting the beach will never find new coins then.You got a deep seeking detector.The high khz of the vaquero has no effect on hitting on silver,because of the Vaquero's awesome depth capabilities.Heck,the Tejon runs higher khz than the vaq.I do not worry because the Tejon goes plenty deep for any type metal.Silver,copper,gold,brass,it don't matter.Don't worry about the khz thing.You got a awesome detector.One of the best. :-@

Your encouragement has really helped me. I do not judge the Vaquero in a negative light anymore, especially after getting it back from the factory. I know what the Vaquero can do. I found my first walking liberty half dollar with it and nobody really finds those. My confidence has definitely grown and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season

Bobby, glad you got it straightened out. Now go get a better shovel, you will need it.

Can someone tell me what exactly they do when they retune the coil? I sent my Vaquero back about 1 week ago because I never got much depth with it since I bought it & was unable to GB it lately. the best I got was 5" on a dime on air test.

What the h&// are you talking about?

Never mind, just went back through the manual for air testing, sorry.
