Air tests - Beach Hunter ID

Hello all
Initial air tests on Beach hunter ID results:
Compared to whites MXT and garrett GTAx 1250

for all test items
MXT most sensitive
followed by gtax1250
followed by BH ID

Im not all that impressed with the BH ID initial air test results.
any comments?
anyhting im doing wrong?
got sens at preset, gnd = halfway. thrsh = 1.2 way.mode = disc

Hi John,

What you are doing wrong is air testing instead of testing on a slatwater beach. The dual frequency of the BHID was designed for saltwater use, where it will generally outperform single frequency detectors.

So drag the three units to a saltwater beach, and use one to go find a real target. Then check it with the other two machines. I prefer this method over using freshly buried items as again that is not a real world test. After a couple hours of detecting/comparing you should have a genuine idea of how the units compare.

This is an exceedingly good example of why air tests simply do not work. A saltwater beach hunting situation is really tough, and often machines that air test the best do the worst in a saltwater environment!

All that said, John, if you are not hunting in saltwater then the BHID will be out of it's environment and so other units may outperform it.

You are rignt - the BH ID is performing well on the beach and I have dug some deep items. But it seems to be ok at parks etc as well!
After using the MXT its quite nice as I have to rely more on "visual ID" - ie dig and see approach - less chance of missing items I may have chosen to not dig with the MXT!
I enjoy your posts - thansk for the time taken to post them!
I hope to do some gold fossicking on some creeks here in New Zealand soon!
